Confused Regarding Legalities

Theres no "loophole"

Its how the firearm in question measures up to the code.

A loophole is a mistake, a thing to be closed.

This is it.

Will the powers that be see it that way? Dunno.

I think it depends largely on the image this gun gets.

We have some power there. We have to be somewhat carefull with this. As I posted on another thread in this forum.

"It only takes a couple bad apples to spoil the bunch."

Of course, all the best efforts we make might not do a damn thing. But its better than screwing ourselves over by not doing what we can.

I cant say I can imagine a great way to do that. But you can bet that I will be going strictly "by the book" when I step out with this firearm.

As far as getting previously classified firearms de-restricted, dont get your hopes up. I have never heard of anything going from restricted to non-restricted. Gun laws are like a noose. They only get tighter and tighter it seems.

The only chance I see is to just blaze new trails. The SMD12 is a small chance to do that. Insinuating that it is a gap that should be closed invites that noose in. Misbehaviour justifies it. So all us SMD owners had best keep our noses clean I think.

With our laws the way they are, is it not possible to have the barrel of a prohib or restricted firearm replaced with a longer one, then have the firearm verified and the class changed? So following this procedure with an Ithaca Stakeout, one could install a regular stock, have it verified for class change (now over 26" OAL), then replace the pistol grip legally...correct?

Edit: I just fully read BabySeal's post above, and I thought that there were guys out there that had restricted rifles such as CX-Storm "de-restricted" with a barrel change. Wasn't there one on EE a while ago?

Just out of the blue on the subject,

I think that the spirit and intent of firearms legislation remains intact with these guns, because if it is produced by a registered and approved manufacturer, then when it comes into our hands it will be duly registered with paper trail to our door. "They" will know that you have one, and that makes them feel safer. You cannot create a gun like this yourself, (ie alter, saw-off etc) because then the powers that be will not necessarily know about it, and can't trace it to you if it is somehow used unlawfully.

It still doesn't really make sense, but as a wise man once said,

"Who can plumb the depths of a politicians mind, using only the brutish tools of logic?"
