Well-done to a few CGN'ers that opened some serious whoop-ass at the Kamloops Frost Farky this weekend...

Leeper, who took top honours with a clean sweep in F Class with a 750/750 (sorry cannot remember the X counts)
Mysticplayer who was in a very close second with 749
Cyan1de was barking VERY close behind with his brand new 6BR build in only his second match ever.

Phenomenal shooting considering the conditions that presented in the latter half of the day (3-5 minutes of wind at 300).

Well done All!

It was nice to put faces to so many of the folks I have seen on-line here and to have learned so much from so many in the process.

Congrats to Bill (750/750, awesome Bill and I beat you also won the ugly gun trophy too eh) , Jerry and the new kid with the 6BR of the HR Ski pod, Cyan1de.

UPDATE: Just finished talking to Bill's wife and I guess I have to eat my words, Bill took a good looking rifle to this shoot and left 'Ol Ugly (his rifle, not his lovely wife Sharron) at home! Sharron said Bill expected to shoot clean and he did. He will be happy and it makes the 8 hr drive easier to take too eh Bill.

How did my buddy Inspector aka Glen make out? Did he make it for the shoot?

Last I talked to Glen he was having issues with his sinuses but stated he was still having fun putting bullets down range. I guess he didn't have a very good shoot but it did not bother him at all. He left right after his last relay as he had to get back to LeDuc and had to be somewhere (sorry can't remember where it is) tomorrow at 9AM for work.

Obtunded failed to mention that HE had the the only PERFECT string of the weekend 150-15X for his last relay of the day

He is now affectionately known as SANDBAGGER

I wish I had brought my camera to take pics of the Defrippulator and Bill's awesome (No Fripp) hat.

It was a great shoot and I got to meet many CGN'rs from all over including Mysticplayer, Leeper, Inspector among others.

As said before, a hoot of an event (big thanks to the Andersons and the kids in the pits). Great to meet all of you. Nice shooting by both Obtunded aka "SANDBAGGER" and Cyan1de. The field is getting TOUGH which is the awesome.

We had a new shooter who I guess was around 10. LOTS of potential there.

Sat started with conditions I hate - bright, sunny and 'CALM'. Of course, it wasn't calm but the flags weren't moving. Mirage was moving in opposite directions depending if you looked above or below the target. YUK.

Scores were superb though and the first two relays turned into an X ring race.

Me, I chased the bumpy air going round in circles. Should have listened to myself and just shot in the middle.

Relay three was something completely different. FUN< FUN? Fun! The wind gods decided to have fun with all of us and give the flags a big work out.

Cyan1de can chime in on his flag bending experience.

Still scores stayed right up there with Leeper staying at the top with a clean score.

I hit a 'WTF' and dropped a point. Mid 9 ring vertical after shooting a slightly high 10 the shot before. Whatever happened, I have no clue but things happened in a hurry.

That was pretty much what caused shooters to miss points. Very sudden and drastic shifts in conditions that would only stay for a short while. Get it wrong and it was easily pushing you 1 to 2 mins.

On Sunday, conditions were overcast, drizzly, gusty but very driveable. Again, superb scores. When the scores get published, you will see that first to at least fifth place had shot possibles with the X count determining placings.

Leeper kept his cool and stayed consistent posting a clean score. This gave him the two day agg win. Great work Bill.

For me, the 'best shot of the event' was by Mick McPhee. Shot a great positioned 9 while resetting his rifle in his rests. Wasn't even looking through the scope. Gotta love them horseshoes.

The TR shooters were still showing how to do it the 'hard way'. Great scores especially with so much bumpy air and quick changes. Chatting with one of the shooters, he was dialing in and out 2 to 3 min changes for various shots during the same relay. That is amazing driving. I am very glad I shoot with a scope.

Looking forward to having the scores posted. Really shows you that top performance can be achieved by anyone willing to put some practise in with an accurate rifle.

At this rate, we will need to make the targets smaller....

Jerry

3/4min windage dialed in plus holding on the right side 10 ring, the wind gust blew me to almost an 8 but it held in or on the left side 9 ring. Scary stuff.

I was told afterward by Obtunded that when I let the shot off the left flagpole at 300m was bent over which I completely missed when I checked for conditions. I'll mark that one up to newbie mistake!!

I sat with Bill Leeper for a spell as we watched the wind flags drastically change 3 or 4 times in a matter of 15 or 20 seconds from almost limp to straight out, back to limp and then standing at about 3/4 full. If you checked flags and saw they were standing straight, by the time you set yourself to take the shot the wind had changed to almost dead calm in as much time and if you were holding off for those conditions, well you can guess how it affected some.

Here are the results of the entire weekend (just received the email)

Had a blast as usual, the only thing that didn't go wrong was the family stuff we did at Logan lake after the Saturday targets and supper free for all, Awesome shooting by everyone. This shoot gets tougher every year.

It was nice to see Bill's lucky hat work too. Great shooting. The Defrippulator was defrippluating just about dead on.

I decided to change the load a bit to see if the one that looked the best would shoot as good as the one I used last weekend. It didn't. Oh well, back to the drawing board or at least the first one. A blistering sinusitis attack doesn't help much either. To much snot on the cheek peice. Very slippery! Maybe the snot puddles I left on the firing point hurt Tom's effort because he followed me. I think I left a trail like a slug. You could follow me all the way back to Leduc I'm sure.

It snowed from Clearwater to Valemont on the way back but didn't stick to the pavement. Got in the door and the email's are piled to the roof so now it's up til midnight printing PDF's, Crap!! It is midnight.

Lots of laughs, great bunch of guy's (and Ladies) and I can't wait til next year. Good luck all

Cheers, Glen

I was actually a bit disappointed in my shooting. I would have liked to have had a much better "X" count. That 4th match was pitiful with only 6x. It wasn't until the last match that I felt I had a pretty good handle on it. I'll endeavour to do better next time.
The Kamloops shoots are the most unforgiving shoots I think I have attended. Lose a point early in the match and you're unlikley to win. Don't lose a point, and the pressure mounts!
One of the things I really find pleasant at these matches is the minimal #####ing. Everybody seems to appreciate the effort made by those who put on the match. This is in contrast to some other disciplines and venues. In addition, there is a notable lack of friction between competitors and a good time is had by all.
I was surprised to see a couple of fellow BR shooter from the "Old Days" who stopped by to say hello. Joe Mendham and Lowell Boyd were always a couple of my favourite competitors and it was good to see them.
One of the things I like about "F" class shooting is that experimentation is still alive. Various people use rifles of different calibers and different construction. They also shoot them differently. Some use bipods, some use BR rests. virtually all are successful. I have competed and done reasonably well with a 6BR, a 308, a 303 British, a 6.5x55 and a 6mm Remington. Look at the gun rack at the range and you will see Remington actions (sleeved and unsleeved) Winchester actions, Savages, RPA's and Stolles. Any one of these is capable of winning.
I have to also thank Tom Fripp. Without his advice between shots ( "You better bear down now" etc.) during the third match on Saturday, who knows what I would have done! Again, a great time. Regards, Bill
