Consensus on 25-06 these days?

Why are long barrels preferred for this caliber ?

Slow burning powder ?

Unstable ?

The cartridge sounds great but the long barrel is keeping me away...If a 20" BBL worked I'd be in

The 25-06 is a gooder. I've owned a couple, a standard and an AI, and think of them as kinda a 243 on steroids.

Great little multi-purpose cartridge. Murder on coyotes for a long way out.

You bought a firearm from Pud! he is a great guy!
Couldn't believe how well the Savage shoots. Good 'bang for the buck'. When I decided to get something that could reach out a little and for some long range target shooting as well as Varmint & Predator, I thought I'd get one in 25-06, if I could find one. I happened to check a few websites and when I found one in Bashaw, I got that plus a Leupold VX-III, 6.5x20 long range scope with Varmint reticle. The big suprise came with the results of one of my first batch of reloads for it. Long story short I shot a three shot group at 185 yds that measured 0.486".:D:D
