Consider this !

Had a similar instance 3 years ag. I hit a deer that somehow was alive we were inside the city limits (barely) A guy came by on his way home had not seen any deer that day. He shot the deer and we threw it in his trailer to take home (one side was good). Topld me where he lived if the cops wanted to see it.

1/2 hour later London's finest showed up. He looked around, seen all the blood on the road, what was left of the front end of my truck full of fur and said "Don't try and tell me it ran away".

I said if he was going to get all rangy about someone shooting (explained it)_it inside the city limits I didn't know who it was. If he just wanted to see the deer I could tell him where.

He just looked at me and said " It just saved me from doing it and an animal suffering in the mean time."

I was pleasantly surprised and we waited for the tow truck.

Come on! I don't think it is that bad around CGN's. 8)

Also I think CO's out here in BC know what a poucher looks like.
ie 40 million candle lamp 3AM deerhunting on a hillside is a tip off.

Thats how we do fox control here! Road kill recipes are still popular here and many a hunt kennel is or was sustained by truck struck deer. The old country tale here used to be if you hit it with your car then you couldnt pick it up. A tale is exactly what it was! Here if you're willing you can take home just about anything for eating. A few protected species ended up stuffed and mounted that way and is totaly legal!

But if you take the meat you'll get people on CGN calling you a poacher...
I would have a hard time believing that considering that 99.9 percent of the ppl here would agree that there is no reason for an animal to die only to be rendered as landfill.

Seems awaste to leave the carcass behind!

Poaching to me means hunting outside of the law.

Putting and animal out of pain is the humane thing to do.

Makeing good use of the meat for charity, feeding the unfortunate, the needy or whatever, is, in my mind is a good thing to do 8)

Why throw good food away :?

I doubt it.

I wouldn't call someone that took the meat of a deer the road killed apoacher, anyway. Not unless there was evidence that they were hitting the deer on purpose...

It's illegal in BC to take the carcass, but I admit I would be tempted if it was a clean kill and I could get home without too much trouble.

A couple of years ago I hit a doe, and the meat woud have been great, but I left it in the ditch instead of possibly losing my HL.

I would be surprised if any of our Alberta CO's would charge someone for this. The ones i have met have a high disregard for quite a few of the lame ass laws they are paid to uphold. The gun registry is one of them. Any CO i have met would vote in favour of putting the poor animal out of its misery.

isnt there something in the regs and the huntersafety course about allowing an animal suffer unneedlessly?

personaly no thinking needed if it is still alive but has no chance of survival i wouldnt hesitate to put it to sleep i dont realy give a rats @$$ about the damn tree huggers and there pansy wansy save the whales bull crap i have a hella of alot more respect for nature and the animals then almost everyone of them damn liberal tree hugging faries
