considering a browning a-bolt for the wife

I just looked at a Xbolt for the wifle the other day at Trout outfitters in PG in a 7 08
was a nice little rifle. Worth a look.

I got my wife the Abolt micro in .308 when she got into hunting and she loves it. The gun is accurate and light enough for her to carry a long ways. So far she's taken 3 moose with her browning and I can see alot more falling to that rifle over the years. Good luck and enjoy the time spent with your wife and kids in the outdoors.

I think .308 is a great calibre for man, woman and child. Its underrated around here. Its versatile, can be reloaded to very tolerable recoil levels, and can also handle bigger bullets quite easily.

My .308 is a beauty to shoot. Its light recoiling even with standard factory ammo, and its unbelievable with shooting reduced recoil loads. Simply a pleasure to shoot.

As for Abolts. They are a proven rifle and worth the money.

sounds good fellas i think i will order one. i too am a huge fan of 308 i shoot a CZ manlicher in 308 and also love the 6.5X55 swede shoot a tikka in that calliber but think the browning micro hunter a-bolt will fit the wife and sons very niceley

Recently I purchased a varmint calibre rifle in 22 Hornet. I really like my Browning Micro Hunter A-Bolt rifle & I wonder what took me so long to discover this one!
What's not to like? Short 60 degree bolt throw, available in RH or LH, tang safety right there where it should be, three lug bolt design,
(just like my Wichita target rifle) so so easy to flip the bolt open & closed!!!! Light in weight, & easy to retrofit factory trigger spring with a Timney kit.
My one and only beef, is the not quite so quick reload, but hey, who cares I'm not hunting tigers with it?

Enjoy yours........I know I will enjoy mine! (I'm sure the X-Bolt is the further evolution of this handy rifle action)

PS: I did shoot many a deer with a Remington in 308, using 150 grain Silvertips or Core Lokts.
I believe in 11 years I harvested about 24 whitetails with it, and almost all were bang-flops.

I got an a-bolt right after christmas in 7-08. Haven't had a chance to get out to the range with it yet, but it is a beautifully built gun. One of the lightest wood stocked rifles on the market. Mine is the medallion, with a 22" barrel and it weighs less than a win featherweight by about 7 ounces.
the 60 degree bolt lift is really nice, and the bolt cycles rounds very smoothly. I would definitely recommend

Holy crap! I came in here expecting to see everyone saying "The A-bolt II is a pice of crap, and that magazine..."

I had an A-bolt II in '06 and I loved it. I always liked the Micro hunter as well. I'm going to bet you buy it for the wife but end up borrowing it alot. ;)

When buying that new Browning bolt remember (IMHO) there is no comparison between the .308 and the 6.5x55 as a caliber for the wife (or children). I like the .308 too, but would never subject the family to it's characteristic recoil. Go with the 6.5x55 SM (or the 7mm-08 as also suggested in this thread) if you want happy confident shooters :)

I have said it before and here it comes again...the A-bolt is a great rifle. I prefer them over the X-bolt.....The A-bolt has no plastic and is a well built and great shooting gun. I suspect that it costs less for browning to manufacture the X-bolt then it did the A-bolt. I feel the same way about the winchester SX2 vs the SX3

Get the A-bolt you will not regret it.
