I might buy this gun off a seller here on this site... its in the equipment exchange a bunch of pages down...

Looks like a gorgeous gun...
This is an ad on an american site.. same gun, similar scope...

the rifle I'm looking at has a bushnell banner 6x18x50 scope, sling (which had to be home drilled and tapped), and a bipod mounted. The asking price is $650 shipped, including case.

Claims perfect condition, only a couple hundred rounds fired.

I have heard SO many good things about savage rifles on here, so I'm fairly confident in the brand and the rifle is ###y as hell. There are some good reviews out there too...

What do you all think? Are there any particular questions i should be asking, and price considerations? I've never bought something like a rifle long distance before.

It's not a terrible deal but not great either. What kind of bipod? If its a harris its a 100 dollar bipod. Personally I like the gun except for the trigger guard. I think the stock is kind of bulky and clumsy looking. It was probably around 500 new. If you like it go for it.

Ask him for pictures and review his trader rating and see what others had to say about him. I think at 650, you will be paying close to the same as you would if you bought the gun, scope and case new.

I have the same gun and think it is fantastic. If it has a bipod mounted, I think he must have installed the swivel stud(s) himself, I don't believe the Mako stock comes with them. At least I have never seen a 'new' one with them...But I could be wrong. If you have not handled this rifle, the forestock is wide and flat on the bottom, which makes it nice for bench shooting with a sandbag. Also be aware that the .17 caliber is very sensitive to wind and groupings will be greatly affected at ranges beyond 50-60 yards. I was out today with mine and there was ~10km/h winds, my grouping at 100 was around 4-6", and this was shooting off a sandbag. 50 yards was dime size. My scope is currently just a 3-9x32 Bushnell that I had laying around.

trader rating of 6... 1 recent.. only 1 negative ever...
Yeah i was adding it up and thats darned close to retail, and in america these guns are selling for only $400 shipped, including more stuff (though no bipod).

it does look great,... the case isnt worth much but as long as the guy did a good job drilling and tapping those sling studs it would be alright...

i guess i hesitate only because of the price which seems a bit high.... but for something i really want.

I have photos of the actual rifle, all set up. and it looks great.

A better price for the package might be $500 shipped, at least as a starting point.

I did really want a mil-dot scope.

Suggestions on value?

I have the Bushnell Banner 6-24x40 w/mildot on another gun and I only paid 130 new at the store. The Mako I paid 460 (almost brand new, previous owner only had it a couple weeks new from store and only 60 rounds down the barrel) with hard case....

I held the Mako as well as one with a thumbhole stock.

I took the thumbhole without hesitation, gotta make sure that it is comfortable and just doesn't look cool. The swivel will also windup closer to the shooter than the regular stocks and this could have a small effect on stability when using a bi-pod.

I made what I hope is a fair offer of $525 shipped.
It turns out the MAKO edition is SO popular they decided to bring it back.
The original purchase run of 2500 or so was an order for australia that was cancelled and made its way here.

They decided to bring the rifles into general production and the first ones should be arriving in stores in January according to a big gun store in Ontario I phoned. The new in box price will range from $425 to $499 per rifle depending on options.
