Hey guys, I'm loving all the help I'm getting from CGN! Like in the title, I'm considering the Springfield 1911 Mil Spec. The 1911 has always been my favorite pistol, and the Mil Spec seems fairly affordable, around $650-700 in the US, but I'm having trouble finding any in Canada. Anyone know which website I could check out? Or if I can go to a gun store and have them order one in for me?

Prophet River would definitely be able to help if you were looking to import... it's going to be hard to find one up here already though I'd say. I believe Prophet had a Springfield Range Officer when I was at the Calgary Gun show but could be mistaken.

Good luck on the hunt!

I was fondling a Mil-Spec Stainless in Canada for around 1000 bucks before I finally bought my Colt Series 70. They're nice guns. A few years ago they used to be more easy to find.

Seaching for a mil-spec 1911A1 in 45acp is easy. Just go to the nice people at Wolverine and look at their Sporting Arms Manufacturing, S.A.M. guns.
SAM makes an unbeatable quality 1911A1 Military 45acp for around C$440.00. Can you say "sold!"

The SAM aint no Springfield,The OP is looking for a nice gun.

Heck yes. Springfield makes a fine pistol imo. Agreed the Mil Spec is tough to find, keep a sharp eye on the ee. I paid 600 for my used one about 4 yrs ago, worth every penny or more.

The Norinco is cheaper and comes with better sights if money is a major concern. Better steel in the Norinco as well. The SAM is made in the Philippines. The Phillippine Gov't bought the Norincos for one of their forces. Maybe they knew something.

I have a Norc and a Sam and had a Kimber Dessert Warrior. The Norc I had is to me the absolute bottom line, everything is so sharp, left unmachined and just looks like it costs cheap. Hey you can get them for $350 used though so buy away, for that price you definatly cant go wrong.

As for the SAM's I have the mil-spec commander and my friend has the Thunder Bolt and i think these are the complete opposite the the Norcs, there very well built and clean, nicely machined and run so damn smooth and I"ve never a problem yet.

I sold my Kimber Dessert Warrior and bought the SAM for a third the price. The Kimber is obviously better built but I was never as happy shooting it as I have been shooting my SAM.

I dont think I will ever sell my SAM, Amazing for the money.

Oh and with all that said I really like Springfield and jjust bought a P9 9mm.

I'm not 100% on this but I heard that SAM makes the STI Spatan for STI.

Cheers,
Evan

Is Armscor Philipinno also, maybe thats what I heard, and yah I think it's the onky STI made out of the US.

I'm pretty sure I read over on 1911forum that the STI Spartan frames and slides are made by Armscor. The internals are STI parts. I believe the "higher-end" Trojans are made in the USA.

Springfield Armory's frames and slides have been made in Brazil for a very long time now. I believe their higher end guns are finished in the US, but forged in Brazil. Brazil has excellent steel and Springfields made there seem to be made of good quality, but the lower you go, the less attention to detail and fitting.

Good to know, thanks.
So even if it says "genose (or whatever it is) Ill., it's made in Brazil?

The Mil spec is at the lower end of the production spectrum, but it comes with a few features that many entry level pistols don't. Lowered ejection port, beveled mag well, carry bevels at front and rear of slide, hi profile sights to name a few. May not sound too special, but minor things like this add up to a very comfortable and user friendly pistol imo. I've found the parkerized finish to be very durable and low maintenance. This pistol is not babied and the wear to the finish is minimal. Its had a few parts swapped on it, but not because they were needed, more because I like to tinker. The only issue I've ever had with a Springfield is a loose plunger tube, which was an easy fix.

A few pics to illustrate (and because this is my favorite shooter!)

I'm a big fan of the Springfield 1911 pattern pistols, if you are considering one its not a bad idea. They are solid, reliable pistols. In the 6-800 price range, you can't beat a Mil Spec.

Thanks, but can't take credit for all of it. Trigger job was done by a previous owner, I'm the third caretaker of this old girl. Probably the last too, some of the stuff I've done might be questionable!
