Lots of good advise so far, my nickles worth;
-I have a 625-2 in 5", in my opinion its probably the best gun for IPSC Standard Revolver.
-If using it in competitions, go to one & see what everyone else is using, plus read the rules before you buy one. The seven & eight shot guns are not looked on favorably in some sports.
-I would really look at a 686, its very versatile.
-As for the JM what keeps it out of Revolver Standard? moon clips are allowed and its offered from S&W...?
-I had a model 27 with a 5" barrel (357), great gun but I sold mine (for profit, no other reason- the resale is fairly high).
To me (I don't shoot silhouette) I'd go 357 first (I did) because it was cheap to feed (I reload) and I could feed it light loads, +p or magnum in the same gun.
