Constant and long eye relief - which scope?

What scope has the longest eye relief that remains constant throughout it's magnification range?

Think in terms of a hunting scope, so a fairly low magnification at the bottom end, ie 2 or 3x, and say no more than 9x.

Nikon scopes claim a constant 3.5". Anything better?

I've been looking at the low power Leupold 1.5-5x24 and S&B, Zeiss, ans Swaros. They are all in the 4 inch eye relief , useful for the heavy recoil calibers.

I wouldn't be worried about constant eye relief so much as longest minimum eye relief.

Well, maybe that suits you.

I prefer to have the same amount of eye relief no matter if I'm at 2x or 7x, and I want as much as I can get.

Some scopes lose some of their relief as you dial in more magnification. That could impact on where you mount your scope.

Are you saying its better to have a scope with a constant eye relief of 3.5" over a model that has a variable eye relief of 4.0 (at maximum magnification) to 4.75" (at minimum magnification) for instance? If you set the scope up at 4.0" from your eye, isn't that better than the constant eye relief that was shorter?

I can vouch for the S&B 4-16x50 PMII; I'm not getting a black eye any time soon. Avoid Tasco though, almost got an eyepiece mark on my forehead from one my friend has.

....mmmmmm, no.....

I want as much eye relief as possible, so I can set my scope as far forward as I can.... (on a Ruger #1, to leave lots of room for loading), but then if I dial up more magnification, I don't want to be crawling up the stock to be in the proper position. Therefore, I like the idea of constant eye relief.

I just like my head position to be the same all the time... but I see your point.

Yup! Way too close for comfort! Also, eye relief is far too critical. Either you're picture perfect or blurry black.
