Consumption of lead shot

I've recently stopped using lead bullets/shot for game animals that will be consumed. The new mono-metal are too good and there's an increasingly growing body of peer reviewed science which demonstrates the negative health affects of eating game harvested with lead base ammunition.

Same here, any big game I eat is shot with TSXs for the last few years, and any fowl or rabbit with steel shot.

It hurts your teeth!!!!! This is the worst health effect I've had.

A few years ago I was eating a deer chop and CRUNCH! - I bit into a piece of buckshot.

You can imagine my surprise - and string of f@*!#..... I killed this deer with a 12ga slug!

Must have been from a previous year since there were no outward signs (or extra holes!) in the hide or anywhere else visible after skinning it.

Bird shot isn't as bad in rabbits and grouse since it's smaller - especially when you're aware it might be there...

If you think lead shot is hard to bite down on, try steel shot.
