Hey all,

I normally don't bother with the verifiers, but my buyer wants an antique letter. I got ahold of them once over a week ago, and since then not a squeek. 9+ phone calls, 6 messages, 6 emails and not a single response.

Talked to the RCMP transfer staff who said the verifiers were open and should be answering but couldn't explain why they aren't answering or replying. Wondering if anyone knows some tricks for getting them to reply.

Yep. I've tried a couple different ways and no dice. I even tried going through their internal phone system by getting myself transferred from another branch there but the line just went dead after 5 rings.

Weird... huge workload maybe, which doesn't give them the time to take calls? Last time I called a few months ago, the guy was in a hurry and wanted to get rid of me ASAP, he didn't even care about serial numbers on my antiques much, lol... Or a broken telephone set perhaps? With so much cash wasted on the long gun registry, it wouldn't be surprising that they don't have any dough left to replace their only 1970's telephone, haha

Seriously though, I'd just keep trying... maybe there's something else going on that we simply don't know about (couple of regular employees sick with flu, on strike, on vacation, temporarily reassigned to more urgent tasks or whatever...). Hard to say, but the number is (or at least should be) guaranteed to work, since it's on their official reference letter.

As for the delay, you have to allow at least a week to receive letters by e-mail (if you supplied them with your valid e-mail address over the phone when requesting the letter, of course). By mail, the letters will take at least 3 weeks or so. They usually send you both formats.

Fair enough - the CFC operator said she thought they might be really busy, which sounds like it since it seems a couple other members have found the same thing.

cfc verifiers

for what it's worth i tried to get 2 needlessly registered single shot 12 guage muzzle loaders circa 1860 de-registered about 8 months ago. got letters from verifier and forwarded them as well. followed up 3 weeks later with response "we're very busy-call back in 2 weeks if nothing shows up" nothing has ever shown up and 1 has now become parts for future project(nice lock) and the other has been restored. no doubt i'll have trouble explaining the parts one in future but what other course can we take?

Geez. I wonder what's going on with them? Fired/transferred members, or are they freaking out by the volume of antique letters they're giving out and trying to limit the amount of undeniably legal paperwork out there.

Hopefully that's just me being suspicious.

I think the problem is that out of all of the hundreds of staff, they only have 2 perhaps 3 knowledgeable people relative to identifying antiques. I don't think that even the supervisor of the identification technicians is all that knowledgeable of many technical questions.
