I have a Beretta 92FS. What would be a good second pistol if I decided to go looking for one? 1911's are intriguing, are the Dlask's worth it? I like that they offer a left-handed model. Don't know if I'm into polymer guns. Open to opinions, $$$ isn't too much of an issue.

A 1911 is a must if you want to call yourself a handgunner. Some form or another, just get one!
Whether you love it or hate it, it's a part of history and you feel like a GI on Iwo Jima when you hold one.
I have heard nothing but good things about Dlask 1911s.

You could have a look at the CZ Shadow's, I just picked one up myself, great gun, and great price on them as well. Not sure if you wanted a different cal, but if you wanted to stick with 9mm, this is one gun to consider for sure! Cheers!

I am looking into getting a 1911 too. Please share with us your research result. I am thinking getting a Kimber Custom II. The only problem is there are not many gun shops carry Kimber.

Don't know where you are located but I have a Kimber 1911 that I rank with anything available unless you get to the 3K market. I have had great success ordering Kimber and Sig and S&W from P&D in Edmonton and I understand that TSE as well as other CGN sponsoring dealers are all great to deal with as well. My guns were in my hands within a week to ten days of ordering with no hassles. Check and see who has your dream gun in stock and order with confidence.

I just checked and P&D appears to be out of Kimber right now but TSE has a sweet little Pro-Carry II in stainless as well as the higher end Custom Aegis II.

You won't regret a good 1911 or a nice .357/.38 revolver, or both. Stick to quality name brands.

Strike one - your "contemplating" getting a second pistol.

Strike two - Your not into Polymer.

My god man, you call yourself a shooter? Shooters don't "contemplate". Shooters see something that looks bad-ass and whip out the debit card. That my friend is how its done.

How can you use "polymer" and "Bad Ass" in the same post?? :) edit..Look at the smiley before shoving that mag in your Glock!

9MM first, .45 on a 1911 platform second then a .357 revolver for your third and maybe throw in a semi .22 for cheap practice (or go with a 22 conversion for your 1911)

I agree with the guys, that a second pistol in 45 caliber, or a 357 in 6 inch revolver, is the way to go to round out the shooting experience.

a smith 686 or a 586 is good for ppc, and revolver handling is a skill in itself. nothing like a magnum experience from the usual 9mm or 40

the 45 is quite pleasant to shoot, and the single action trigger can be crisper than your beretta, just remember the safety in the frame, thumb down to fire, while the beretta is usually safety in slide, and thumb flip up to fire.

the kimber is great, never owned one, but also good things about the sti trojan, smith 1911, springfield, all should have great single action triggers
(i wouldn't go polymer yet)

you are still in the min. $900 to $1200 price range.

prproulx is right on about the history and gi thing, but i think he might agree with me that for your first 45, don't go with minimum gi specs, because you will think later of getting one with at least an ambi safely, better fixed novak or adj sights, beavertail safety, etc, get that in your first .45 rather than kick yourself afterwards for not buying all that in the first place.. I did. lol

Ok, in my never to be humble opinion: The Holy Trinity: 9mm, .45 & .357. Then you start collecting after that...:)

platform not such a big deal... pick the caliber first then go from there :)

If you will never reload, get a .45ACP or .357mag/.38spl
If you intend to reload, get a .45ACP, 10mm or .44mag

If I were you, I'd get a .45ACP... Glock21SF (as I just got one and am loving it).

EnjoY!

Get another 9mm

You cannot go wrong with a Beretta 92FS or the new 90-2.
Buy a G17 in 9mm or the new S&W M&P in 9mm, or buy them both.
If money is not a problem, try the STI TargetMaster in 9mm. With that six inch tube, and their reputation, you should make out okay....

Have you heard of any STI Targetmasters available in Canada yet?
