My buddy has many 12(6) pistols that he wants to sell. I am not 12(6) licensed and therefore, cannot buy them.

I am wondering if there is a way to "add" additional steel onto the barrel to make it 106mm, or if somebody has a source for purchasing extended barrels for 20+ year old pistols. He has many for sale, some of which include:

Walther Super Sport 22LR
Walther PPK .32acp
Llama .22LR

Are finding 106mm barrels for these pistols impossible? I've searched high and low on the internet for something and no dice. The only thing I can even remotely think of is getting him to take the barrel to a machinist and getting them to cut a new barrel that is at least 106mm. This would be time consuming and expensive as hell from what I know about custom metal work.

If you have information, do share.

Thanks

There's a place on the west coast called "Bits of Pieces" or something like that, the 'Smith there does barrel fabrications for prohibs. Probably what would have to happen is your 12.6 friend would have to get an ATT and ship the gun to the shop and they can do the work and get it re-classified and shipped back. You could then just transfer it like any other restricted. The only consideration would be the cost of doing this versus the overall value of the gun. Hope this helps

i don't believe that barrel additions are legal anymore, they have to be a rifled part of the barrel, not just a bit welded on

Contact Barry Jensen at Bits of Pieces. He does that kind of work and will give you a quote about the feasibility of the work, as well as the cost.

I have done a few conversions using the original barrel. (I only do my own guns) I drilled out the rifling, added a barrel liner, re-chambered, and added a cover piece over the extended barrel liner.

Older guns tend to have thicker barrels compared some more recent models. It gives you something to work with.
