Conversion kits 45 to .22

Mr. Noob here... Question: I have one of those ever so popular Norc 1911 govt handguns. What is the deal with .22lr adapter kits? Does anyone on here find they work well, easy to install, a specific one to recommend, I know GSG makes one ect??? Thanks in advance.
 
I collect certain types of semi-auto handguns, and when they're available I like to get the .22 kits that go with them. Almost every one I've ever picked up required some degree of fiddling to get it to work properly. However, I don't really shoot my collectibles, and so the .22 kits are just parts of the collection. If you want to shoot .22, then my advice would be to either buy the kit and plan to fix it if it doesn't work, or take "NAA"s advice and buy a .22 pistol.
 
The drawback to 1911 platform is everything needs to be fitted in one manner or the next. I've looked at 22LR kits for my 1911 but Google searches pretty much said it needed some fitting to work perfectly. That said, spend the extra and get a GSG 1911 as NAA pointed out.

Which version of the Norc 1911A1?

I'd be especially interested to hear if it was one of the one's from the Can Am deal [no Norc markings].

Typically from what I've read the fitting is minor but still important to making the kits work correctly on the frame. So if the fitting needed is minor it stands to reason that occasionally someone will get a kit and frame where the machining allowances work out such that nothing needs to be done. But that's simply a case of good luck. The same brand kit on your frame might need the fitting that slyty managed to avoid through luck of the draw.

Personally I like being able to just pick up my guns and shoot. Swapping the top end on a 1911 takes long enough that I'd say just buy a whole GSG. That way you know you have the whole thing tuned and working right out of the box.
