Conversion to 7.62x25

Are they really that bad? I was sorta considering getting a Tokarev sometime in the spring.

Go ahead and get your Tok. Grab a crate of ammo for a dime a shot and discover:

1. This stuff is loud but has almost no recoil

2. The Tokarev is very nearly indestructible (unlike the CZ52 which tends to blow up when fed hot loads)

3. The gun/ammo combination is surprisingly accurate

4. It is really awkward to shoot. The grip angle is all wrong

You will find a Norinco Tokarev is a lot of fun to shoot, the biggest bargain in handguns. And when you finally do get tired of shooting it, you can load the rest of that super-hot surplus ammunition into a priceless antique Mauser C96 and blow it to smithereens. :nest:

My Nork/Tok

I've found some Chinese alternative grips that cover the backstrap on mine then put on a small pistol handall that has made mine a fave to shoot. Almost like a different gun. Big bang, large flameball and suprisingly accurate, plus cheep to shoot. I've even picked up a used barrel to burn up with the two 1/2 cases of corrosive ammo I got cheep. The new grips and handall solve the grip angle problem completely. Got them at Lever Arms for $25. They might have some left but were running low last spring.

The gun itself is awsome , I had some really great Norinco 7.62x25 ammo that shot well.
My problem is not with the gun , the problem was the czech surplus 7.62x25 ammo , is was very hard to hit the target with it as like most surplus ammo its not consistent.
Even if the gangbangers wanted that stuff because it may go through a vest good luck hitting anything with that ammo!
I am not the worst shot or the best shot out there and have shot lots of other handguns and calibres and types of ammo and had great groupings so I think/hope I have had enough experince shooting to say that the surplus stuff is garbagio!
Once I put in the 9mm barrel in my norctok I was hitting the target alot better !
Its nice to have the option of shooting 2 differnt calibers in one gun!
I love the pop of the 7.62x25 ! There were several times at the range where people came over to see what I was shooting just because of its sound!!

True about the ammo, ive had good & bad lots, i own 2 torincos with 9mm conversions. I seem to shoot a lot more of the 7.62 x 25s, more dramatic! I also bought an extra bbl for corrovive & the new bbl seems to shoot the corrosive quite accuratley. Great gun for the money (thats why i have 2 )

I like the original grips. The stock stocks. The accuracy is pretty good, I did do a weld on the bushing to tighten it up.
The recoil is pretty mild, about he same as 380 auto, strangely.

I've not found the czech stuff not much worse than the nork, but I do have lot's of that too. (savin it for a rainy day tho) I think the trick is xtra mags. I may not be the best shot but I sure wouldn't want to be any less than 100 yards away from someone like me with one. I've found they shoot real flat at long range. It's like a good 22, cheep to shoot and I just love the huge muzzle flash. But then again, when I was a kid I used to blow up my GI Joe's with fire crackers.:stirthepot2:

Hahahaha, thats to funny , I used to do the same , I would set them all up in my moms garden then blow them up! SHe was so mad at me for filling her garden full of holes !

I experienced lack of accuracy with my last Tok too - but I think it was less about the ammo and more the appallingly stiff trigger (the only worse one I've had was the double action pull in a Walther P1). The flash/bang aspect was outstanding and like an earlier poster, I found a small Hogue handall made it much more comfortable to shoot.

Of course I'm in line for one of the $99 CanAm specials :)

Is is possible to make any modern handgun to 7.62x25 TT? Any mag/barrel kits?

I think easiest way would be trying to machine custom barrel chambered in 7.62x25 and in combination with 9mm Luger slide on top of double-stack 45ACP frame. 45 ACP should be long enough to accept tokarev round. I think even 45 magazines will accept toks after some modification to lips. Might work or else you will have to roll your own magazines out of sheet metal. Or roll your ammo with shorter OAL (kind of defeat the purpose though).

Another possible way would be rebarreling 38super 1911 and simply feeding it with tokarev diet. Magazines, slide, extractor, ejection port etc -everything should work without any further modification.
