convert 375 Weatherby to 375 H&H - need gunsmith with reamer

I have a Winchester Mod 70 with a Pac Nor Match grade SS barrel chambered for 375 Weatherby. I want to rechamber it to a 375 H&H as they are more available
Does anyone know of a good gunsmith in Ontario who has a reamer for 375 H&H and can do this. I need a high quality job and this one need to shoot to 600 yards MOA
 
You will require a new barrel. You can't weld the chamber up and re cut it... much simpler to sell it and buy what you want... 375 H & H isn't the best caliber for 600 yards.

I've a 375 H & H which was converted to 375 Weatherby.
Perhaps you do not understand that you can shoot 375 H & H through your 375 Weatherby? I do not have one round of 375 Weatherby brass, it is all fireformed from 375 H & H brass. 375 Weatherby is actually an improvement on the 375 H & H designed to get a larger powder charge and more life from brass when reloading.
You quite literally insert 375 H & H into the mag and cycle it through the rifle, shoot and presto...375 Weatherby!
You may have a tad of issues with feeding from the magazine, I'm not sure on that issue as my 375 W is a Ruger No. 1. Falling block doesn't have feeding issues.

But 375 W or 375 H & H are not 600 yard rifles. Could be done I suppose but there are so many better options; why bother?

YUP its seems mighty strange to me too - also 600 yard MOA out of a 375 cal ?? Gonna take a pretty good rifle to do that ! JMO RJ
 
There is no reason why either the 375 H&H or Wby wouldn't be capable of MOA to 600 mtrs..........just not the type of cartridge that would come to mind for that type of shooting. I participated in a couple big bore silhouette matches and used our 375s out to 500 mtrs offhand, they worked just fine and there was no doubt whether or not you hit the rams...........

OP.......I would just keep the rifle as a 375 Wby, were I you, and buy a set of dies to load it with, fireform a bunch of H&H brass to fit and then load to what ever level of performance that you need. The Weatherby is a better and more versatile cartridge to load and you can gain a significant increase on the old H&H if you want to, or you can load to H&H levels with lower pressures and longer case life. The 375 Wby just doesn't have a downside, it is a wonderful cartridge, and arguably a better cartridge than the 375 H&H.

Hey c-fbmi - thanks for the valuable input - I appreciate it. I believe the rifle is capable of MOA it as its a custom build. My comment about wanting it 600 yards MOA isnt about target shooting (my target for this rifle is animals) but rather that Im looking for a good gunsmith who could ream it for a specific hunting bullet ie Barnes or Swift ( I suspect I should have clarified my question/request) As per the comments of some others - I understand there are better flat shooting calibers for 600 yard shots but I seem to like the 375 for some odd reason. I was considering having it rechambered to an H&H, thinking it might help for resale if I ever decide to part with it. I have been fire forming H&H brass but was thinking that before I end up with a couple hundred fire formed brass it might be wise to consider rechambering. I know an excellent gunsmith who does quality work but doesnt have a 375 H&H reamer, thus the cost would increase, so I thought I would ask the question. However after reading your post I may just keep it the way it is
 
You must be careful messing with the throat, check your throat now and see if you can touch the lands and still fit in your magazine. Your magazine length will be the determining factor to your COAL (in all likelihood). If you're looking for LR capability, try out the 300 gn Sierra or you might want to try a 285 spritzer RBT that Marshal at Matrix made up for me, for my 375 Wby. Not only are they a nice shape, they are an amazing hunting bullet and I HIGHLY recommend them. I know for a fact that they work almost point blank on the muzzle and they are constructed from materials and in such a method that I guarantee they'll open up as far as you can hit animals. I seriously can't say enough good about Matrix bullets, and if Marshal has time he'll make what ever weight you want. He's now making me 105 gn 23 caliber bullets and some 325 gn spritzer RBT bullets to try in my 378 Wby as well as some semi spritzer flat base.





This is a 270 gn 9.3 bullet which hit a grizzly at less than 30 mtrs at over 3000 fps.......it still weighs 258 grns and measures over an inch in dia.

X2...For the cost of a new barrel and work...you will be just throwing money away. All of the 375 hh's I have owned cept for one were rechambered to 375 WBY..Never had a problem selling any of them!!
 
Personally I wouldn't fool with it. It wouldn't be my first choice if I was looking for a 375, but it would work nicely and be no problem to handload.
