Convert COoey 60 to .22 WMR?

Apart from whether this would be a good idea from the safety standpoint (probably NOT a good idea), the extra length of the WMR round would make the conversion mechanically difficult.

Many months ago I asked a similar question regarding a Cooey Model 75 conversion to .22WMR and if my memory serves me, there are 3 things that need to be looked at: firstly the bolt face would need to be opened up to receive the slightly larger rim (maybe some work to the extractor too), next of course would be the reaming of the chamber, and lastly and probably most difficult to overcome is the fact that the bullet diameter of the magnum is slightly larger than a standard .22lr, could be a safety issue there.
I'd love to convert my Model 75 to 22WMR, so I hope I'm wrong! LOL

so the cooey probably wont be able to handle the pressure of the WMR ?

i was wondering how the conversion would be done, because the case is longer

The Cooey 60 has a single brazed on locking lug/bolt handle, and a barrel dimensioned for .22rf. Leaving that aside for a moment - look how the 60 feeds rounds. The ctge has to work around a curve, and be picked up by the extractors so that it can be cammed up the boltface, ejecting the prior round in the process. The boltface would have to be adjusted, as well as the extractor. Don't know if the round is just plain too long. Not much you can do about the length of the bolt throw. The firing pin is large, mainspring usually not very strong. I suspect that you would see significant brass flowing back into the firing pin hole. While nothing is impossible, I would suggest that the Cooey 60 would be a poor candidate for conversion. The .22 Mag. was dimensioned specifically to keep it out of rifles originally made for .22rf.

I have owned a model 75 that was converted to 22 WMR. It is feasable, and actually was one of the most accurate .22's I've owned. The bolt face will have to be opened with the extractor adjusted, the chamber needs to be reamed and the bolt throw(distance the bolt moves in the receiver from front to rear)had to be lengthened by machining the bottom rear of the bolt to allow it to travel further. I had mine done at Gene's Gunsmithing in Selkirk, MB. I do not believ e the model 60 would be feasable to do because of the problem with feeding the longer round fro the tube mag.

How much to do the work?

HAH! more interest!

i just wanted a cheap lightweight rabbit gun in 22 mag because i hear cooeys are real accurate, and ive got one coming in the mail soon anyways, i guess ill just have to use those CCI stingers or soemthing

My uncle did it successfully a long time ago. He still owns and shoots the gun and has never had a problem with it.

I have a spare model 60 receiver and barrel kicking around here somewhere. If any of you are actually going to try it and want it let me know. I will let it go very cheap as I have abandoned the project I had planned for it.:)
