Has anyone ever heard of Mosin Nagant bolt-action rifle being converted to fire 7.62x39 ammo?

I think it would be great to share ammo with the SKS.

I'm pretty sure there was a single shot version made in China (that's memory talkin' and it's quite unreliable) for training. I haven't seen one converted, but that might be that the cost of converting it would be greater than the cost of an average Mosin. Convert the bolt to work with rimless, remove/shorten barrel and recut chamber.

There are chamber adapters to convert different calibers to use 7.62x39, but I have only found them to convert .308 (7.62x51) in Canada. (Imported from Alaska)

With deep enough pockets it could be done no doubt.

EDIT:

Found a reference to the single shot I mentioned, and a link to another fellow with similar intent:

In looking for the above found a wiki reference to an M/56: An experimental 7.62x39 version in Finland.

From what I understand some people have managed to convert Carcanos to 7.62x39 as the case base is pretty much the same size as a 6.5 Carcanos. A Mosin Nagant would be tons of effort for reasons stated above, but if you found a cheap sporterized Carcano it wouldn't be too difficult to do (especially compared to a Mosin Nagant in the same caliber).

My SKS' eat enough on their own. I personally love going back and forth between both rifles and loads when at the range.

As much as I like 7.62x39, I like 7.62x54r more. So I don't think I'd convert anything I own from x54r to x39, they each have their good points and both are plentiful and cheap.

You'd need to have a new bolt head manufactured as the bolt face on the stock bolt is far too large due to accommodating the rimmed 7.62x54R. You would also have to rebarrel it, or at least find someone who is willing to cut and rechamber the stock barrel, then thread it back on to the receiver. This is ignoring the issue of developing a magazine that will fit on to the stock action. So basically, find a CZ 527 in x39 and get a much nicer rifle for about the same price.

look on ebay, i saw some mosin chamber adapters for like 7.62x25 tokarev out of the mosin, maybe there was a 39 there one too, i wouldnt wanna do that though, some cheapy little piece and only 1 round at a time. look on ebay if you really want
