Converted auto transfers?

Just wondering if any of you fellow CA collectors have completed any transfers lately and how they have gone. I recall reading about the RCMP labs grabbing converted autos during transfers and holding onto them for years while they decide whether or not the conversion was correct. Is this still happening? I haven't bought a converted auto for a lot of years and just heard about some that may be coming up for sale. Since the Liberals WILL NOT be getting re-elected this fall (right?), they shouldn't be a factor.

It is anyone's guess.....there does not seem to be any form of reasoning as to what gets sent away, and what passes through the transfer process like any other restricted firearm.

One buddy has been waiting more then a year to learn if a conversation "meets modern standards" and it hasn't even been ordered sent to Ottawa yet, while another has been waiting about a month or so to learn if one will be sent to "lab in Ottawa" to confirm which direction it will go.

The biggest problem right now is elements of the RCMP have forgotten that their job is to ENFORCE laws and NOT CREATE laws. As a result, it appears they just make stuff up as they go: no longer issuing ATTs, changing conversion standards, etc without any legislative changes to authorize their actions.

So a change of government on Election Day will not be the only fix: there also has to be a change at the RCMP.

Just my .02 cents.

Anywhere from 3 weeks to 3years for me. 3 weeks was for an M14 and 3 years for a VZ58.The M14 had already been seen by the lab . The VZ58 had to be sent to the lab for evaluation. Did a Bren not long ago thru a site sponsor took about a year but most of that was because of bad comms between the lab and the dealer. The lab wanted more work done the dealer did the work and dealer sent photos of the work to the lab. There was an argument over whether the photos were sent by the dealer and received by the lab. I had to intervene to make sure the lab was happy. Once I got it straightened out it went pretty quick.

The hardest part right now is people thinking there 12.3's are worth a fortune.

The RCMP pretty much seem to be lords unto themselves on this, regardless of whichever government is in power. They operate under enabling legislation and regulations which allows them a lot of discretion.

The business of calling CA firearms into their Ottawa labs and holding them for extended periods has been going on since the Kim Campbell era more than 25 years ago. You really have to wonder what this bureaucratic exercise has accomplished in terms of crimes prevented and lives saved.

One thing is for sure; there hasn't been much interest among legislators to change anything. AFAIK none of this has deterred any licensed CA owners from committing crimes with their registered CA pieces. Criminals do not participate in this process, but even they seem to have been quite cooperative in not committing crimes with illegally obtained CA firearms.
