Converting .243 brass to .308, issues?

Hi everyone

I have a bunch of .243 brass and no .243 (spun off the barrel and put on a 6BR). I have a .308 but no 308 brass. I tried running a .243 piece of brass through my .308 sizer and it comes out looking like a .308.

Any issues with shooting brass like this?

neck area will be a bit thinner so may be a bit more prone to cracks around neck but other than that is is not a problem.

look at the drawing of both cases and compare measurements if your not sure. 243 win is a 308win winch is necked down.
you are basically opening up the neck.
i have done it several time ..
going from 308 to 243 and from 243 to 308.
i have even at one point got a lot of 60-06 brass which i sized from a 30-06 down to a 243 and 22-250

For the amount of time it wil take, and the possible substandard, thin necked brass you will end up with, why bother? .308 brass is plentiful and cheap.

You'll have perfectly good, thin-walled .308 brass.

I'm sure if you advertise on EE, you'll find someone that will trade your 243 for 308. Less work and no thin neck,

I'd be inclined to go up in steps, maybe .243 to .277 to .308. If you've been going from .243" to .308" with one pass, check your neck run out to see if its still reasonable. If the neck concentricity looks good, you're set.

You should be fine.
Just check them over before and after the first shot
of neck sizing.

I have about 800 once fired 308 Dominion brass from the 50's/60's I'd be willing to part with.
The old boy I knew was keeping it for that "special project". He's since passed on but asked me if I wanted it before he did.
He mentioned it was an earlier allow with a bit more copper then today's brass making it more malliable.

Barry, send me a PM with your mailing address, and I'll put some 308 brass in the mail to you. You can give the 243 to someone up there to use.
