I've been tossing this idea around in my mind for awhile what are your educated thoughts on converting an antique status 32rf to 38spl so I can backyard plink without going to a range.it will take a lot of work I know but what's your thoughts and/or tips

Thanks
Jason

Set a video camera on a tripod, and film the test firing.

It will help a lot, when they try to figure out how you mangled your hands, in the event that you bleed to death.

That others may learn, and all that, eh?

Somewhere between a bad, and incredibly stupid idea, even on the odd chance you have a rimfire with a long enough cylinder to convert. They simply were not built to take the pressure.

Irresponsible stupidity to convert it and say that you will "only ever shoot reloads at appropriate levels", as you will not be there to stop anyone that picks it up and in their ignorance, hurts themselves or others by loading ammunition much too powerful for it.

Cheers

The law is the same, it hasn't changed. It's just the RCMP interpretation that has changed.

It seems to me that you've got some learning to do before you convert anything. Research goes a long ways, experience goes even further.

I have experience working on guns I just was to lazy to do my homework and the teacher yelled at me ;) and question as I've never even held a 32rf I'm going to guess the camber length isn't very long so I wonder if I found a gun with thick enough cylinders to handle 32acp

There are reloading kits that can be employed for .32rimfire (long and short). No gunsmithery required, and your gem can remain original.

Regarding conversions that might be a little trickier. My Dad has an older .32long Remington long gun. Every once in a while I'll find a few rounds for it at a show. At one point he was considering relining to work with .22, but I don't think he ever pursued that to fruition.

I don't care how hard it is I'm tossing the idea around and if someone can point me in the right direction I'll talk to my gunsmithing partner about doing it(he has done a couple relines) I'm now just lookin for some safe conversion calibers

Trev: I LOVED THIS! WELL SAID! However... in the future (in response to similar acts of stupidty and likely self destruction) DON'T HOLD ANYTHING BACK ... tell us what YOU REALLY THINK!

If the cylinder walls were thick enough, perhaps a revolver could be converted to use shortened, handloaded .38Sp. cases. The typical rimfire revolver would likely be too diminutive for any such conversion.

If your gunsmith partner has done this before you should talk to him.
At this point I wouldn't share that information with you for fear you'd hurt yourself or somebody else.

**edit** in another thread you claim to be a gunsmith. Wtf?? Any good smith would know this is a piss poor idea at best. You should tell us who you are so we can stay safe.

Here is a copy and paste.
"Ontario we have seasons for bunnys an squirrel and I'm a gunsmith I could fix it but it's a POS that isn't worth fixing the parts would cost more than the whole things worth"

And a link.
