I'm thinking about converting my 5R in .308 to a detachable magazine feed from the current floorplate setup. Since I don't want to get rid of the HS Precision "factory" stock, I'm thinking of going this route - hsprecision.com/shop/detachable-magazines/detachable-magazine-assembly.html - since it should just drop in.

I'm curious if any other 5R owners have done the conversion while keeping the "factory" HS Precision stock, and if there are any other options out there.

The HS bottom metal is ok, the 5 rnd mags actually only hold 4 comfortably and the 10s hold 9 rnds.
For not much more $$ you could go with bottom metal that uses Accuracy Int mags that work far better.
We make our own detachable mag system that uses the AI mags, so does VBull and Badger. Personally having sold and used all of them the HS for the money would not be my 1st choice, that being said I would be happy to hook you up with some of our remaining HS stock while it lasts.

thanks for that info - does the setup using Accuracy Int mags just "drop in", or is custom smith work needed? I dont mind spending a little more $$$ if its a quality piece of work.

no doubt in my mind alberta tactical offers the finest work, check their website if you doubt :p

No there is a little "surgery" required with any of them. The HS is not total drop in but the fitting required with theirs is very minimal.
Ours , VBull and Badger require a bit more fitting as well as some milling work done on the action to allow for the longer mags.

We can install this product in any 700. Mag holds 8 rounds....Made entirely in house except for magazine spring and 2 screws.
