Is that from personal experience or hearsay?
Mine is NOT a jam-o-matic, and nor are my friends. Tthe trick is to keep them cleaned and lubed.
Pete,
Its personal experience. Anybody who knows me, know just how anal I am about my firearms, i.e., my "cleaning kit" is in a large plastic toolbox that's bigger than the .50 cal ammo cans or the Plano XL dry boxes I use to transport ammo!...I keep my gun clean!
I'm also a hard core Remington fan. I currently own about 9 different Remingtons...a mix of 700s and 870s. I did own several 7400s, and despite my best efforts, they were, to be kind, tempermental. I tried different mags, handloads, small base dies and a broad selection of factory ammo. I finally got sick of dealing with them and traded them off. Before the trade, however, I let the tradee know my experience with them.
My local 'smith absolutely hates them and you've got to physically twist his arm before he'll work on one...forget trading one in, 'cause whoever ends up buying it will be bringing it back P.O.'d
Why do you think Remington finally decided to retool the 7400 and re-release it as the new for 2006 Model 740? I'm with Angus when it comes to semi-auto hunting rifles...if I have to have one, I'd opt for a Norinco M-14, maybe even a Browning BAR, but I'd much prefer my 700 or .303 Lee-Enfield. Anyone who has hunted Newfoundland knows that its not a question of if you're going to get wet and your gun full of bog, but when! Bolt guns simply offer a higher degree of probability that they'll go bang when that record book Caribou or moose steps out on the mash!
