i currently have a 682 gold e sporting with 32" BARRELS---WHICH IS FINE FOR SKEET AND SPORTING--- i am know also starting to get into trap

is it possible to swap stocks and barrels on these guns----or is it better to have a dedicated trap gun----

It will be cost prohibitive to buy new barrels and a stock. New barrels will be 2000-3000 unless you find used, and they will have to be fitted to the gun by a competent gun smith. You could have an adj. comb put in to raise the stock a bit or buy a new stock, and if you like nice wood you could be looking anywhere from 500 for pine or 3000 for beautiful marble like wood. So as you can easily see, you would need to invest 2750-6500 to do what you are asking.

However there is a simple and free solution to your problems. Just shoot the gun you have for trap it will do quite well. Beretta tend to shoot a little high anyway.

The advantages of a trap gun vs. a sporting gun a typically you have a stock that keeps your head up and level. The higher end ones typically have adjustable point of impact. and lower end ones ususally have a POI suitable for trap. for an example you would usually have the POI set so that you actually keep the gun with a visable distance between the bead and the target, anywhere from what you perceive as 6" to 2 feet. Advantage being that you can see the bird better and see what it is doing going up, down, reaching it's apex.

To be honest, I do have a dedicated trap gun, that said, I have friends with $8,000 Perazzi's and kreighoff kx/s-5's with fancy stocks and tapered adjustable step ribs, and they get their rears kicked by old guys with a smooth round barreled model 12 from the before time.

I think you should stick with what you have but If you have the money to spend, look for an older combo. or if you are only interested in singles try a bt-99 or 1100 trap or if you want a little fancier perazzi tm-1.

Best of luck

Addidng a step-ribbed Trap barrel and Trap stock would most likely not be cost effective.

A dedicated Trap gun is perhaps the better answer.

If it's a budget consideration, you might want to look at something like a 391 Parallel
Target SL or at less than the cost of another 682 Gold E, a 686 E 30"/34" Top Single
Trap Combo.

Are you still shooting skeet and sporting? If so shoot your gun as is and only get into a dedicated trap gun if you intend to focus primarily on trap.

Some years ago when I shot more trap I had a dedicated trap gun and a second o/u for skeet/sporting. The trap gun needed a rebuild and while it was away I shot my other gun. The trap scores dropped at first but came back but to me suprise my skeet and sporting scores improved. There is some truth to the benefits of shooting one gun.

If you were to make one change it might be an adjustable comb to raise your head and POI a little higher for trap if you feel you need it.

Pretty much the same experiance as Claybuster.

Although I shoot primarily Sporting, 5-Stand & Skeet, I've used my 32" DT-10 Sporter ( and previously a 30" 682 Gold) for both ATA Trap & International Trap. Only a little adjustment is required to be effective at both. I also have a 391 PT-SL that
performs very well at Sporting, Trap, & Skeet.

i dont plan to primarily focus on trap. i want to enjoy all disciplines. i would like to stay with one gun ( my 682 gold e, 12ga, 32").

i was looking to do some changes as there is a bloke selling a adjustable stock and fore-end for $400.00....the trap barrels are 875.00 from the states....

this way i could change the stock and fore-end permanently and use the trap barrels when shooting trap and use the sporting barrels for skeet, 5 stand, sporting------

or

have a good gunsmith convert the existing stock to an adjustable stock and basically raise and lower poi as needed------

what i am trying to achieve is----one gun to chase all my dreams

this one gun is all you need.add an adjustable comb to your exsisting stock to raise poi for trap, use your same barrel and shoot at the pattern board to achieve your desired poi,60/40,70/30 is what i like.others might recommend
100% above bead, but on quick dropping targets this would not help you.shoot targets and adjust until you feel comfortable and you start smoking
targets. cheers

Are the barrels off a 682 gold e or a 682?

You could take the chance on the barrels as they are relativley cheap but, they may not be fittable to your gun.

They also could be difficult to import, or pehaps they will get up here with out a hitch, it's anyones guess.

As for an adjustable stock to change POI, switching between barrels and subsequently changing stock positions may prove frustrating, as it will be hard to return the stock to the correct position for the respective barrel repeatedly. It's not undoable but I feel that it will be a pain the rear.

My best advice would be to buy a gun specific to trap if you feel the need to have one, but honestly your sporting gun as it is will do just fine in trap, if you decide that trap is your one true passion, you will be wanting more that just another barrel, you will be looking for a high end gun like, perazzi, krieghoff, kolar etc.

i agree---it sound like a pain trying to adjust the stock all the time---i am going to shoot trap with this gun and see how it goes-----
