ok any folks ever try or do convert a old hopkins an allen 12 guage fallong block action into a black powder cartridge rifle? i got one (complete in 12 guage) and an considering getting it switch over,,,,,,,,,any advise, info or mistakes i can avoid.........please let me know...
if converted as suc could it be de-registered? as a before 1898 kinda thing?

"...could it be de-registered?..." Nope. The firearm has to have been made prior to 1898. Using BP alone means nothing.
 
The H&A falling block action is not well made and the receiver is cast iron and the barrel is a slip fit into the receiver. I don't think I would want to try and make any sort of rifle out of it. I have one that I got as a study piece for falling block actions.
In the Frank de Haas book " Single Shot Rifles and Actions " he reccomends against converting a shotgun to a rifle.
H&A did offer .38-55 and .32-40 rifles as well as other calibres built on this action.

It is possible that you might be able to de register it, lots of these guns were made well before 1898, but I don't know when they stopped making them.

so in theory you could / should be ok to covert the h/a action to 38-55 or 32-40 caliber...( exactly my plan if safe to try) ........mines made for an shoots modern shotgun rounds currently , 12 guage a--ok.
any one know anyone who did it...........info advice needed.

PM me a fax number or mailing address and I wil send you a copy of de Haas's article. There are a couple of other references in the the article but they may e dificult to find now. My copy of the de Haas book was printed in 1969.
I haven't done the conversion althoough I did consider it for a while but the action I have is just too worn to do anything with it.
