i was recently informed of people buying surplus 7.62x54r ammo, pulling the fmj's and istaling sp's. any of you do this? how did it work out? oh and they used the lee loader. i've reloaded hunting ammo since i was a kid and have never heard of this being done. thanks

A very common practice with milsurp in any caliber.

use a similar weight bullet.

neck size the case a bit. Sizing about half the neck will work.

Re-weigh the powder charge.

Seat a soft point or match bullet.

i pull the bullet and keep the powder from my 8mm rounds and throw the case away. than i use the same amount of powder and bullet in a new case and primer works very well

First push the bullet into the case 1/4" or so with your seating die to break the tar/seal some ammo has inside the neck for water proofing then pull them.Lots of this crap in 7.62x39 ammo.........Harold
