Question for the fine folks of CGN. I have a Savage 11 muddy girl youth model my girlfriend hunts with. It's a bottom bolt release and uses the same removable mag as a savage axis. This system is very poor and I was wondering if anyone has managed.to convert one of these to the old style metal bottom metal or something else that works better? The kicker is that these stocks have a trigger guard, but the "bottom metal" is integrated into the stock.

Thanks for any advice or help!

The molded mag well on those stocks is what it is. You should be able to swap the Model 11 barreled action you have, it is likely 4.4" between the action screws, into any model 10, 11, 14 or 16 Savage stock that that measures 4.4" between the action screws and has the metal bottom bolt release trigger guard, metal mag well, etc . Even the newer model 110 bottom bolt release stocks with the polymer bottom works should fit. savage kept the 4.4" between the action screws. The magazines on the newer model 110's are somewhat better than the Axis style mags.

I generally like Savage rifles, but I gotta admit that their endless monkeying around with screw-spacing, bolt-release location, magazine release location, staggered vs straight-line configuration, receiver top profile and who-knows-what else can get pretty irritating when you want to mod or upgrade your rifle. Just be careful and check all the variables before ordering. Good luck!
