Converting Savage 110 to floorplate or mag

I have a Savage 110 in 300 win mag. Its a bit older but in nice shape. It has a blind mag and it drives me nuts. Are kits available for the 110 to convert it to a hinged floorplate or mag. I think I am leaning towards the floorplate. Any idea how much it would cost for the kit and to have a smith install it?

I don't know about kits, but I bought all the parts to do this to my brother's 110 in 7 mag a few years back. Around $125 in parts (including a new stock) from Numrich. Pre 9/11 though, it will be more and you'll have to do paperwork to get it across the border now. - dan

I converted a 116 .338 from a floor plate to a box. Called Savage directly and $150 and 2 weeks later, I received the mag frame and two mags.

If the rifle has a flat on the rear portion of the action, then the only option is the side release mag box. I am pretty sure that Savage will sell you all the parts. The mag box that is there is removed and the det mag frame installed. You will also need to modify the stock to make all the springs and levers work.

It is possible but parts are becoming a PITA to find.
