I have a Remington 870 Express Synthetic with an 18.5" Smoothbore and 7 Round extended magazine tube.

I was thinking about getting a 20" rifled barrel for shooting the nonrifled Remington Accutip Sabot Slugs not sure if I should get one with rifle sights or the cantilever scope mount. My reciever is not drilled and tapped btw.

I was just wondering what you guys think? I have never been hunting before and my uncle has offered to take me in the fall.

I personally like irons on my supernova, but my brother uses a cantilever on his mossy 500. It's all preference. The scope will limit your vision. Nothing like scoping down at a doe and missing the big buck coming our of the bush behind her because it's out of your field of view.

Don't forget, make sure you have your tube plugged to fit max of 2+1.

The cantilever rail will allow you to mount a scope, or if in tighter quarters, a red dot can be used.
After having gone with both options in the past, I run a cantilever barrel now.

It's an 870 which is a pump shotgun and it is for deer hunting. He can leave the plug out and shoot as many shells as it can fire. Look at all the tube fed lever action rifles. If he was using it for migratory bird hunting then it would need the plug. Cheers

Wow its a good thing I mentioned the extended magazine tube. Where can I get exact information about the laws on this because I don't want to get in trouble.

Contact whatever passes for a wildlife office in your province.

Out here in BC the COs told me they didn't care with regards to deer grouse and bear unless they spotted me walking out of a duck blind with it and it happened to have no magazine plug in it.

But check the regs in your area.

Yes it says "or repeating shotgun" meaning any repeating shotgun, semi-auto, pump, bolt action, or any other kind of repeater that might be out there.

Yeah that makes sense... I wonder if I took the extension tube off and use a convention shotgun magazine cap if that would be enough?
