Convinced my wife... :)

Is it her rifle that you need permission?

Nah, we're a young couple but we're old school. We both work and share the same bank account it works fine and we don't fuzz over small purchases but we talk about big purchases together before we make them.

I just got rid of my Jewell and went to a tuned (2.5lbs) old school Remington trigger. Pretty much bombproof and won't fail like the Jewell did for me. Was soooo pissed off I was ready to chuck it in the trash! Luckily it was only at the range and not at a match or in the field looking at a trophy buck.

Sounds nice ... be sure to post pics when you complete your build.

p.s. stick with the AICS 2.0 ... get a S&B scope, badger rings, large bolt knob ... ;)

12GaugesShotty,
I would suggest you buy a custom action as well. The $700 for your SPS plus gunsmithing is almost the price of a full custom Stiller Tac action, and you can get a long action. Can be ordered here on CGN too.

Cheers, have fun with your build.

For a .308 you should consider the 42X in a BR not the NXS. The cost difference between the NXS and the BR will let you get a bigger mag. scope. Turn it down to 22x if you like but at shorter ranges you,ll see the point of impact with a 42X.
I own both the NXS and BR both in 42X they're fantastic. Thinking of moving the NXS to the 50 cal and buying another BR for the 6mm BR.
A .308 won't hurt the BR.

Contact Peter at Hirsch Precision for pricing.

Why Badger Base/Rings over Nightforce Base/Rings and why Schmidt and Bender Scope over Nightforce Scope?

I have had both the NF and Badger rings here for builds...the Badger had a nicer feel and seemed better finished. WRT the scope, I always take heat for this, the NF scopes kick ass to be sure...but once you've the seen and played with THE S&B I cannot imaging using anything else...JMO...YMMV.

This is what I am looking at not necessarily the finished product because I plan to work on this rifle until I perfect it.

2.0 AICS Stock (Black)
Harris Bipod (6"-9")
Krieger Barrel (26" 1:10 Twist)
Re-work Remington 700 Trigger
Re-work Remington 700 Action
Nightforce 5.5-22 x 56mm NXS (Mil-Dot Reticle)
Badger Ordanance Tactical Bolt Knob
Badger Scope Rings
Badger Base (20 MOA)

You convinced her? Did you have to feed her a couple drinks first?

Best way to make a sniper rifle is to train the shooter.... How much training and ammo could all that gear buy on your stock rifle with a bushnell scope.

Anyone up to a contest?

We find 2 guys with no shooting experience. One gets 30 days and custom rifle. Other gets 30 days, stock rifle, and money to train...

Then a little competition?

Any vendors who want to help with this I'll make a HD video or DVD of the whole thing.

All this debate of stopping power vs. shot placement, and "pimping my glock" gave me the idea for the video...

I can afford the ammo and the nice weather is coming the snow will be gone soon and I will start putting in some serious time on the range.

What about travel to Gunsite or Thunder Ranch for a long range tactical class or similar instead of the gadgets first?

How much practice will you be doing?

My plan is to get out on the range a couple days a week depending on my schedule I am in the Canadian Forces so my schedule varies.

Why would you want to go with a 1:10 in a .308? 1:12 is all you need for the heaviest bullets you would ever want to shoot from a .308 anyway. Even the Berger 210 grain bullet only needs 1:11"

Someone said 1:10 was better than 1:12 earlier in the thread I guess they were wrong...
