"A house brand .22 caliber rifle and shotgun line made by Cooey for the Robert Simson Co. Ltd. of Toronto and Montreal as early as 1942. This department store was second only in size to the T. Eaton Co. Ltd. In later years the company merged with Sears-Roebuck of the United States to form Simpson's-Sears."
That is a direct quote from the book "Cooey Firearms in Canada 1919-1979.
I would imagine that with the low serial number it was made in the first year or two of production. That choke your talking about definatly was not factory spec, but ya definatly got a great peice of canadianna there. i got one witha serial number 24###.
It will hole a pattern like you wouldnt beleive and with the cheap wal-mart #5-6 i got no problem taking partridge at distances people laugh at me, till i pull the trigger, then they say, "holy sh** ya hit it".
Also, if you ever get a chance to grab a model 84 cooey in a 12, SNAP 'ER UP!!! I pick them up for $60-$80 in good shape. IMHO they are 10 times better than the new singles shots ya get. i have over a dozen now, and if my wife dont look in the cabinet, im plannin on gettin a few more.
Some people smoke, or drink, or collect stamps. I buy cooeys, lol.
they are an awsome gun that your kids-kids will enjoy. Hope this helps, and Congrates!!!!
