Fixing up,and camo painting a Cooey. How much torque on the stock screw? 30" lbs and the barrel and stock feel like a savage axis.

I just finger tight mine. I tightened it right up once and when I tried to loosen it I almost need pliers to do it. 30 inch lbs seems like a lot to me. I use like 15 inch lbs (guessing here)

Crap, after looking at some photos, mine seems non stock, it has a kinda hex nut attached to the bottom of the barrel, and a regular flat head screw threw the stock from the bottom. I see a bunch with a knurled nut?

The thumbscrew is held captive in the stock so I couldn't easily measure the length, but it protrudes out of the stock (into the barrel channel) about 4 threads

Here are some pictures, so far. I measured and the screw is not bottoming out.(1/8" to go) I used acuraglass, and JB to fix the broken out hole area, the person before me had just put a dimpled square "washer" on the bottom for the screw to push against the stock. I used one of those Uncle Mikes white washers under the screw now. Still has some play or flex between the barrel and the stock, not that bad, but I don't really need to spend too much time on it as the boys when they are older will likely put it threw its paces. I do have the trigger guard, sights etc.

to OP that is what your model 39 cooey mounting system is supposed to look like. I also have a 39 cooey, it has the same hex piece and flat head screw to hold it together. the knurled nut setup is usually factory on the model 75 cooey.

Did Cooey change the mounting system ever? I ask only because I'm also in the process of remodelling a 39 and it doesn't look like that at all. It has a slotted hollow screw in the receiver ring, the inside of which is threaded for the stock screw. I would post a pick but still having issues with Windows 8.

Thanks BC, it's actually not as green in person, but as soon as the camera is on it the green pops out. I thought that I would try this fake Kryptek pattern before I used the sponge method.
