Cooey 600 scope mounts

I own a Cooey (Winchester) Model 600. It is already drilled and tapped with 4 holes on the right side of the receiver. I've heard that I need a #2 Weaver side mount. I've also heard that it is easier to have it retapped by a gunsmith to fit more modern bases. Could anyone share their experiences / tips please?

Be far cheaper to find the proper mount for the holes awlready there.
Won't damage the wee bit of value t'either.
