I have an older Ranger model Cooey 64. The original metal mag still functions fine. I purchased a new Savage 64 mag and it is causing failure to feed issues. First the feed ramp design is slightly different. 2nd. the front and back alignment catches ride slightly higher than the original. Is it a wear in issue? Or can I file the catch to match the original? or do I change the feed ramp angle? Looking for advice before I start re-inventing the wheel. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I've had a 'new' 64 for about 7-8 years and had problems with many of the mags (I have 7). Some of them had the alignment issue and I 'solved' it by adding some JB-weld on the back 'ledge' then filing it to where it worked, as you suggested. Mine needed to be 'lifted' a bit to make it more 'snug'. I found that pressing 'Up' on the Back ledge was my solution. Yours may just need slight filing of the front OR back instead. Polishing the feed ramp - carefully - also helped mine, too. Be careful as the 'pot-metal' is soft and easy to 'over-work'; the lips are 'flexible' to a degree, you can bend them to adjust feed tension, too.

Ken, I hope some of that helps you. Just wanted to add in case you haven't re-worked your trigger, polishing all the 'friction surfaces' on the trigger, sear and bolt will make it run smoother. An older 64 may have 'run-in' well anyway, but polishing with 1000g or finer paper can help any gun. And I replaced the Trigger return spring with about 1/3 of a clik-pen spring, stretched to fit. This will take about 1-# off the trigger. I used the MCarbo spring kit to get the sear-spring 'cause theirs is a touch lighter and the 'double-loop' thing is too complex to duplicate. Maybe another 1/2# ? My trigger is about 2# now.
Good luck,
Buck

Buck1950. Finally worked up the courage to start filing. Took a bit of meat off the front and back latch. Very little. The real issue was the top of my new magazines were a bit tall. Slowly removed material and I got a perfect fit now. Thanks again.
