I recently got a new/used bolt for my cooey 64 on the EE and ever since then if I load more than 5 rounds into the magazine when ever i pull the trigger the firing pin does not seem to hit the primer hard enough. It puts a dent in the primer but does not set it off

Never used to do that before, what could be causing this?

Bolt dragging on the fore stroke of the cycle, and hanging up a wee bit?

Dirty bolt innards? Anything in the bolt design that can hang up, either on the top of the bolt (mag pressing the top of bolt against top of receiver) or on the bottom (bolt dragging on mag or on top round)?

Cheers

If you put more than 5 in the mag, does the gun still load the bullet into the chamber? If so then there seems to be a problem either with the mag sticking too far up into the bolt or the spring that fires the striker is too weak. Depending on how old the bolt is , it could be just a lot of residue built up under the firing pin. It can be slid out and the whole bolt cleaned with a spray cleaner like brake cleaner. i have 5 model 64s of different manufacture years and have not run into this problem with any of them. It really should not make a difference how many are in the mag unless the mag notch is so worn and the additional pressure upwards is binding the bolt or striker. Maybe you could try a new mag,.... may cure the problem. With out it in front of me it is very hard to diagonse.

I'm going to get a new mag for it when I find them. Savage 64 mags work right?

Yes it loads into the chamber, I can get the 10th one to fire if pull back on the cocking knob all the way back and let it slam forward, the next 4 shots wont fire.

Yeah ill try something like brake clean on the bolt and give everything a nice lube with oil.

The 64's innards are tight, and prone to jamming, etc.
Regular disassembly and cleaning is something you'll get used to.
Clean burning ammo helps. KD
P.S. The Savage mags fit the same.
