Cooey 64b Feeding Issues

Hey all,

I have a Cooey 64b that i picked up about a year ago from a fellow gunnut. I never really shot the gun that much, less than a brick through it for sure. However I really like the gun and i've found it is a nice little rifle to carry when hunting rabbit and grouse. This brings me to my dillema:

I took the gun apart to give it a full detail cleaning and now that its back together the damn thing will not feed for anything! I've taken the gun apart many times before and I know how to put it all back together so i am almost positive thats not the problem. When I rack the slide the round will pop up into the breach but it will not raise up enough to seat into the chamber it just gets stuck against the chamber and doesn't slide up the feed ramp and into it. So my question is basically how can i fix this problem. Hopefully there are some gunnutz more familiar with the rifle than myself who could suggest solutions.

I had the problem too but when I started trying different ammo, it became obvious that the solid round headed ammo entered the chamber much better than the hollow point ammo. It may just be the rough rings on the bullet that is causing the problem. Another solution may be stretching the mag spring to apply more pressure to raise the cart into position, another may be a new mag as the older mags have worn lips and the cart is out of position to slide correctly.

if everything worked before you took it apart, you have accidentally reversed a spring. Not a biggy, do it again.

I adore my '64's!

As stated, they can be fussy eaters with ammo. Personally found ANYTHING CCI works, fed 525's also work well.

Double check your trigger assembly screws. I have 2 different '64's and, one of 'em needs a shim or, the screw will bind the bolt. Double check also, that your mag-well is stitting nice.

I also use the shims to "adjust" trigger pull. Be wary...too many will affect how the sear operates and, can provide a surprise.

Last but, probably should have stated first...when you cleaned your rifle, did you lubricate it? I have found that mine HATE to be oiled. It mungs them up very quickly. Run 'em dry and, lube only for long term storage.
