Hey Guys

I just recently inherited a Winchester Cooey 64B, I am trying to get some info on what scopes will fit on it also can you attache some sort of tripod to it for prone firing.

Plus any other info from people that may own one or have owned one before

Sorry I am a total newb when it comes to this stuff as I only started shooting this year.

the most usual scope that fits it is a 3x9x x40. The bipod requires a stud be put into the stock about 3 inches back of the forend. I have done all my 64s (7) this way and used them for shooting gophers. The 9-13 inch bipod is the height I use.

be sure to take it apart and clean about every 500 carts you put thru her.

Had a 4x Weaver on my 64 and that was quite adequate. I dont understand why some guys put a variable on a 22lr but if it works for you then go for it. Just dont go with a cheap one. I bought a $60 Bushnell rimfire variable and every time I changed magnification I changed the point of focus. Lost a few grouse before I figured that one out in the bush. Not a good place to find that out.

I use the Bushnell Rimfire fixed 4 or 5 power, (not sure which off hand) on my Lakefield 64b. (same rifle, by the way) and it works very well. I just use the dovetail mounts that are on the rifle and the mounts that came with the scope. Although everytime you remove the scope to clean the rifle the point of aim changes a bit, but I find not that much if your careful to put it back on close to where you originally had it when sighting in the scope.

As someone else mentioned you will need to take the rifle apart about every 500rds to clean it, especially the receiver, as it doesn`t like to get very dirty. Other than that they are quite an accurate shooting .22 semi.

The Winchester/Cooey/Lakefield 64b is still being made today by Savage. Savage 64b is essentially, the exact same rifle.

The link I had to Savage for the PDF file for the manual is old and out of date, apparently. If you PM me with your e-mail address, I'll send you the PDF file, instruction manual, for this model. Or maybe someone here can direct you to a current link that works.

Well I picked up the gun today, looks to be in great shape after sitting for over 13 years, I gave it a good cleaning, was a little intimidated on taking it apart but was actually a breeze, cant wait to take it to the range to try it out, hope it fires

also picked up a Bushnell 3-9x40 scope but need smaller rings to attach it

It's not worth putting a bipod on one. Not much point putting a centre fire scope on it either. Bushnell makes a 3-9 rimfire scope that'll do nicely. Comes with rings. Should go on the grooves on the receiver with no drilling or tapping.

Good score!

I adore my '64's!!!

Any rimfire rings will fit the dovetail. Winnipeg Toymaker is well worth reading (often in the '64 posts) and, I would only add:
Don't lube with oil (I don't lube mine at all unless for storage/rust prevention) as it will only spped up the time between cleanings and, possibly lead to ftf's
