Cooey 75~I'd love some photos/stories

I am looking to buy one of those rifles. Which version is the better, the older one with only "Cooey model 75" stamped near of the receiver or the version with "H.W. Cooey, machines and arms" stamped one the barrel?

They are both good guns. It just depends if you prefer the older straight stock type or the "whale belly" type. Ask Camster--he has both now.:D
 
Having both...still couldn't answer!

If you like Cooeys (I do!) it boils down to personal pref. Whale Belly (newer) is a touch heavier n' beefier and, has sling mounts. I love 'em both and, really, not sure which I prefer...

They both shoot very/equally well. I've used my straight stock one for about 1000 rds and, my whale Belly has had about 40rds pass through it by me. Once I've "balanced" use of them, I might be able to pick just one...Currently I do a touch better with my older/straight stocked one one but, that might have a bit to do with the "matchbook cover replacing rear-ramp" modification or, the fact I've used it far more.

Seriously, as stated, if you have a chance to hold both, decide which "feel" you'd prefer, performance seems equal (most accurate rifles in my safe).

This Model 75 is sporting a Lyman 57/ globe site combo and a "mint" barrel. As you can see it one of the pictures the side of the stock was "carved" out for the Peep site.

MY story: Walked into a Arms Collectors Fair this morning at 10:00 looking for a Cooey 75. I wasnt looking for any more, nor any less. It was a smaller building with about 20-23 tables, took about 5 minutes to do the rounds. In that time, I saw 3 75's. (mine was the second one) Came up to this one first, made a deal with the guy and walked out at 10:20 happy as a clam.:D Hope to bag a few bunnys in Mums garden this summer.

Bunnies or, bull's eyes, you'll be happy I'm sure! I'm thinking those sights equal rifle's value but, could certainly be used by something so accurate.


Quick tale of 75's....

At the local "range" yesterday me and, a friend. 2x75's (needed to really test my new one vs. original one!). I had set up targets at 50, 75 and, 100. The "range" was in use by a couple of other folks. They had set up some "fun" targets at the 100yd mark and, were testing their newest toys (including a "tactical Tika", in .308 with a Zeiss conquest on it). My buddy (Dragonshooter here on CGN) knocked a golfball, shotglass and, babyfood lid at the 100 (all one shot, one target) with the "whale bellied" 75! Punishment was to set them up again for the Tika...and, again, and again! If it was just one, I'd call Fluke but all 3????

Good to meet new friends but, I'm thinkin' they'll be pretty busy looking for fancy Cooey 75's for a while!

I must admit those 75's are pretty accurate! I was pretty lucky with my shooting, especially considering I could not see the targets...lol but the almost 200 rounds of free 303 ammo was pretty sweet too! May have to pick up a 75 for my collection!

I didn't embarass myself with the 'ol slender stocked 75 either...I managed to impress the the fellas too.(but, not Dragonshooter! She's used to outshooting me by now).

Nice day (broken extractor on my Ljungman aside!) had by all. Honestly, you can't put a value on seeing the looks on the stranger's faces after Dragonshooter knocked down their targets...single shot, open sights and, older than any 2 ages added together vs. shiny new Tika!

My main concern was about accuracy, but you're having a good point. If I got the chance, I'll choose the one with the better "feel" on hand.

look under used rifles. right now there are 2 whale belly and 1 older, each for $80. I'd get one myself, except for the scope thing...
