You can lighten the trigger pull by reducing the engagement of the sear. You can either alter the bolt's sear surface, or devise a way to limit how far up the trigger assembly is allowed to move on reset.
 
Looks great! I was just looking at my model 82 and wondering what to do with it. A shortened barrel and cut down stock is a great idea.

I wanted the cut to be square to the barrel channel so I just layed the stock,channel down,on the table saw and took off small slices untill I was happy. The nose of my stock was not an even radius,it is a Cooey after all, so I just took it back until it looked half a$$ed right and said good enough.

Thanks Guppy. The 8 ball is actually a shwinn bicycle valve cap that I picked up at liquidation world for .88 cents(a pair). Oddly enough I had an insert in my box o' crap that was the right thread and slipped into the cap perfectly, I have no idea where it came from. The paint on the 8 ball wore off after a day or so of gopher sniping and has since been replaced with a knob from a set of BM20 hydraulic levers, again using the same insert as before.

A quick update. The stock has been re-finished and looks awesome. I have made several attempts at bluing the metal with different products but nothing seems to want to take. I think slow rust bluing might be the answer but I'm still looking into that.

Come hell or high water she will be done for my visit to the gopher patch in June and ,ofcourse, I will post pictures here when finished.
