Just bought a cooey 750. I want to mount a scope but theres no dovetail and only one screw on top, the one for factory rear sight. Is there anyway to mount a scope with out taking to gunsmith. Open to any suggestions. Thanks

I have read about a JB weld solution but, if you do it, don't tell anyone...

I have a '75 and, it could be the most accurate iron in the safe. I'd like to slap a scope on it but, to do it properly, I'd need a smith (or some serious luck). My local smith has done a couple. Very nice when he's done. I might pursue it when any of the other 1,000,000 projects I have in mind get done. If you're in SE Ontario PM me and, I'll gladly give you his number.

Many ways tried but really to no avail. Camster stated a remedy but how long would it last and what would it look like. The gunsmith would either side tap or top tap the action for either a side mount ( which is about $50 at cabela's) or a pair of single mounts or even a one-piece weaver mount if that is the way you wish to go. Usually about $15-20 a hole.

Yea, JB weld seems to be most common and cheapest way to go. Might give it a try. Nearest gunsmith is bout hour to hour and a half away, so fuel plus parts and labour would be getting kind of pricey lol

I sent my guns to the gunsmith thru the mail. Much cheaper than fuel to do the trip one way. My smith is 4 hours away. You only have to send the action and barrel. Cost me just over $7 to ship....about the same as 2 gallons of gas. I do not know how accurately you can "j-b weld" the mounts on. The smith has the set-up to get the holes drilled where they should be...giving accuracy to the scope. But in the end....your choice. Get the mounts right and a good scope and you will have a tack-driver, mine was.

If I was going to install it myself, I'd mount the scope to the base, centre the scope adjustments left to right, pull the bolt out of the rifle and bore sight it, marking the position of the base for correct alignment with the bore. Then I'd drill and tap just one hole, repeat the bore sighting process and mark the position for the second hole. I'd repeat the same process if I was going to use an adhesive to make sure the centred scope was close to bore sighted as the epoxy or anaerobic CA glue set. Just a suggestion if you plan to do it yourself.

I'm sorry I mentioned the J-B soloution! Was looking more for a laugh than offering what you'd asked for...sound advice. Honestly, I'll double check with my local smith (closed today) but as I recall it was like 80$'s for the Base, d&t (if you bought the base though him) mounting. I will double check tomorow. Seems pretty close to the cost of the rifle but, if you're a "scope guy" you will have twice the rifle after! (not nec. for re-sale purposes but, I don't know...can't recall a scoped '75 in the EE or, elsewhere. I guess people would keep 'em!

As Grizzlypeg suggested, if you do it yourself and, are "methodical" all should be well...
