There was a Cooey model 82 full wood that was listed on the EE. The receiver was grooved for a scope. I was wondering if anyone else has a model 82 with a grooved receiver. I have 3 of them plus I sold a 4th. and none were grooved. All were military marked guns though. I never owned a civilian version so I'm wondering if civilian model 82's were grooved. It's possible the gun that was listed had the groove done by someone as it looked like the groove cut through the "model 82" lettering. Just curious so I can add it to my info.

I don't know if mine was military or civilian as it was 'sporterized' before I owned it, but it is not grooved for scope rings.

Hmmm. I did google Cooey 82 trainer and found no examples with a factory dovetail groove. Where were you looking? In fact, if I remember correctly I have never seen a Cooey with a dovetail groove before Winchester took over.

Thanks guys. I didn't think it looked right. So I don't have to add "more information" to my file. I just hope the person who bought it noticed it had the groove.

I saw that , the seller did mention it had dovetails for scope, I expect it was a gunsmith mod. No mention of dovetails in any known period literature. Mine does not have grooves, but has the military serial number and C broad arrow.

I agree that it was most likely a gunsmith done groove job, but I'd much rather have that than a couple holes drilled & tapped for a side mount scope bracket.

I see that, scope base was drilled and tapped to match the holes used for the sights, pretty interesting stuff if it was done by a gunsmith, crying shame they didn't drill and tap it instead, more work for us after we cut the barrel down to a more suitable length and then remove a lot of that wood from the stock so make something more shooter friendly then that square 2x4 look, finish it off with 2 coats of spray in bed liner and it will be good to go as the new truck gun for this coming fall, bent the barrel on the old cooey truck gun using it as a jack handle trying to lift the truck to change a flat last moose season

never...............and she has gotten a lot smarter the last couple years, when she goes away she books me into daycare so I am never left unsupervised. I copied the pictures to my computer before the add was pulled, definitely ran through a milling machine to add the dove tails. I have an action from a model 82 trainer and no dovetails in it, if there was no means to mount a scope on it I would never have bought it.
long story short is that the rifle is being scoped and then going out on a long term lease to a vet in his 80s with poor eye sight, his son in law takes him to the range once a week just so he can shoot a few rounds at 25 yards, I am kind of tired of two things, watching him try to load a clip/magazine call it what you want, and tired of the frustration of watching him try and work a jam-o-matic semi auto
so all in all its a win win
