Found a Cooey 84 online- just want to know what if its a good shotgun?

its only $85...good deal or no? has anyone ever dealt with Shooters Choice?
would the Cooey 84 be a good paltform for a build?

The cooey 84 is not a "build" gun. It is just a single shot 2 3/4" gun nothing fancy nothing special. There is no aftermarket for a single shot. You can restore it if it is worth it to you but most are not.
 
If it hasn't been abused they are usually very reliable. Light quick to the shoulder,and usually choked full. If you want to shoot steel shot I would reccomend have the choke opened up to at least modified. In 12 ga you will know when you fired it , usually a pretty good kick.

I own a 16 gauge Model 84 that I bought for $80. It's undoubtedly been used and deserves to be refinished, but all the scuffs and patina it's developed kinda gives it a bit of character. And as Winchested alluded to, it probably isn't even worth the hassle for me to refinish it. $85 for a 12 gauge sounds good! I use mine for rabbits/grouse/ptarmigan in heavy cover, and it always does it's job when I do mine.
 
I have a number of Cooey and Cooey/Winchester shotguns and .22's cause I like collecting them. They are quite reliable guns. I often grab a 16 gauge model 84 if I want something light to carry for the day, plus it trains you to be a better shot. $85.00 sounds like a good deal to me as long as the action is tight. You can always repair/refinish the wood and bluing yourself but if the action is worn, then you are getting into skills that may require a gunsmith and the gun wouldn't be worth it money wise by the time you are finished.

i'll probably end up getting it, seeing as my tax cheque came in the mail today :hehe:
and i was talking to a guy who runs a shop and he's also a gunsmith as well, and he told me if i do a good job refinishing the stcok, he'll give me $100 for it...but who knows, i'll probably want to keep it
 
My Grandfathers( now mine) Model 84 Cooey 12 ga has killed thousands of partridge, mine was built around 1950 and has never had to been serviced, even if it did, all parts are availible to restore/fix your gun! My younger brother who never hunted, is getting my 12ga Cooey 84 next year as he has decided to start hunting ,as his son will be an apprentice hunter next fall, the gun will be handed down, I hope to further generation of hunters in our family who will enjoy the simplicity of walking a old tote road looking for the elusive Partridge! Good choice and real nice people you are going to buy your Cooey from! Dale Z!
 
My 16ga 84 is chopped to a 22" bbl. Carrys like a carbine (almost), great truck gun for chickens of oppurtunity. Not worth anything but the ammo you feed it.
