Want to cut the barrel back to cylinder choke this12 GA Cooey, leaving as much barrel as I can.
Anyone know where the full choke constriction begins?

If you take a tight fitting jag, like the kind typical for cleaning muzzleloaders, run the tight patch through until it stops at the choke, measure from the end of the jag to the muzzle and transfers that to the outside of the barrel. If it were mine I would then chick it in the lathe and shave the muzzle down to close to the line, check with the tight jag and if it does not go through with equal pressure, shave a little more and keep going until it just goes through with equal pressure ( if you want it to within a few thou of the choke.
 
This may work... drop a dime down the barrel from the chamber... it should go though the bore and stop when it hits the choke.
 
If the barrel is going to retain a front sight, I would locate the front sight position before cutting.

Thanks. That’s a good idea to locate the bead first just don’t drill/ install the bead until the cutting is complete. A piece of masking tape on the barrel with a line drawn down the centre than set the distance back from the muzzle can be located after the barrel is trimmed to ensure that it is exactly where you want it relative to the muzzle ( in case it needs to be trimmed a tad more than originally calculated). Great idea. 👍
 
These chokes are swaged or am I mistaken? You could try holding a straight edge by the muzzle. The last time I checked Brownell's sold a 12 gauge choke adapter which you had to bore out to the correct hole size in a lathe, then braze onto the muzzle. They accepted Winchoke system choke tubes. It might look a bit lumpy but Brownell's man. It would be a nice way to up your game.

It would also conveniently place the bead closer to the correct point of aim with the shorter barrel.

Measure the ID of a cyl bore choke tube or barrel at the muzzle and incrementally cut it back till you hit that measurement, say a 1/2” at a time.

Or as LTK said open the choke with a reamer till it’s a cyl bore.
