Remember when the new fall eatons catalogue came out,the first pages you turned to were the gun section? All those rifles and shotguns,ammunition'peters 'whiz bang' 22 shells?
I don't remember what a Cooey .22 rifle went for but chances are if you bought one back then the increase in value would rival the best investment portfolio...plus paid good dividends of rabbits,squirrels and grouse for the pot

I keep looking for a second ace/sport/rabbit, but always just miss it. But I'm always on the search. Is there a way of identifying the age based on the bolt handle, receiver marks, stock? I've noticed two different bolt handles (flat or round), two different receiver marks ("sport 22 cal" & "sport 22 long rifle") and two different stocks (one pictured earlier in this thread and another with finger grooves and a thin metal butt plate similar to the 39's and 75's.
If you can get a copy of the book "Cooey Firearms Made in Canada 1919-1979" by John A Belton has some excellent info. There is likely more to know than what is in the book, but it has the most info I have been able to source.

Does anyone have rear sight suggestions for the Ace? Mine shoots far too high to be of use

Lol I first started shooting a cooey model 39 at camp shot hundreds of rounds out of that into a pop can hanging from a tree 20 years later my dad is shooting it and said "this thing doesn't shoot straight" I grab it sight it about two inches low and three to the right..... Bulls eye nope shoots good same as always I say.

Hardly a good way to teach my daughter to shoot.
Well without details or pictures to see if the correct sights are on it, there is not much else we can suggest. If the sight was replaced with another from a different model at some point in time, because I don't believe that parts are too available, might explain it, but without more to go on other than you saying it shoots too high, all I could suggest is you hold low. If you provide the other info requested, maybe we can offer other suggestions.

It is the original factory sight. The front sight is fixed. The rear sight sits in a dovetail and is movable. I am thinking of trying to find an ultra low profile rear sight to replace it with.

Also somewhat off topic, but as a kid I was given a .410 SXS branded RANGER built on a Savage 311 action. Just passed it on to my grandkids. Shot a lot of pigeons on the farm and my grandmother made pigeon pie.
