I recieved a few firearms from my grandfather and one is a cooey model 84 .410 full choke but no where on the gun states a shell length, does any one know if the 84 came with 1 shell length or a choice of length?
thanks

This was just discussed on this forum last week and there was no definate answer. Some said 2 1/2" chamber and some said all Cooey .410's were chambered for 3". So as already said, have it measured and then you will know for sure. Remember, an unfired
3" shell will fit in a 2 1/2 chamber but there is no room for it to open after it is fired.

To be absolutely sure, have a gunsmith measure it.

read the link you had posted before the edit and I got the same lenth as you did, I called to see if my grandpa could still remember what size he had used and he happened to still have some 2.5" shells, so thats what i will use untill I ever need a gunsmith then I may take it also and ge tthem to check it out.

OK. The reason I edited is that im hesitant giving advice that may lead to a serious injury.

I ran into the same problem with my sureshot.
I kept one 3" spent hull from my .410 sxs which I know is 3"
and tried to feed it into the sureshot.
You can feel the resistance and the spent hull is not all
the way in.
I only shoot 2 1/2".
Hope this helps.
Looky.
