A friend of mine found a Cooey Canuck cleaning out an old family garage, and is looking to get rid of it. I grew up around rifles as a kid on the farm, but haven't done any shooting in many years and would like to get back into it, and thought this might be a good rifle to learn with. I'd say it's in fair to average condition--it needs a good cleaning and the stock could use refinishing.

What would be a fair value? The research I've done have indicated old Cooeys going for anywhere from $40-$200, but I haven't been able to find anything on a Canuck model specifically.

Also, along with the rifle he found an old 50count box of UMC .22 cartridges. Since there's no mention of the Remington brand anywhere on the box, I'm assuming that it's at least 95 years old (Remington purchased Union Metallic Cartridge Co in 1912, and all the comparable vintage ammo I've been able to find online is branded Remington-UMC). The box has been opened, and there are 44 rounds left. Would this be worth anything?

Thanks in advance.

Depending on which Canuck it is the bolt could be worth $50-75. Look real close on the top of the receiver for a ser #. The Canuck was the first model made by Cooey(1919) The early models 1919-1929 were made in Toronto and as I mentioned the early models had ser#s. About 5 different models of Canuck were made in 22 cal. Also made in 25 cal. If you PMed me some pics of the bolt and stock I could likely date it fairly close. Don't get in a rush to sell it-----Cowboy
