Cooey Collectors ?

Hi guys ! I found a Cooey 84 in 410 in really good original condition, no varnish or reblue... Finish is I would say is 95% to 98% intact.

My question is : Is there any collectors of these and what would be the right price for a nice piece. What's your opinions ?

I paid 175.00 for a near new condition Model 84 16 bore a year ago. 28 bores in excellent condition (models 84 not 840) will command the highest prices. I still remember them @65.00 NEW so anything over 200.00 seems a little crazy to me.

If it's 95-98% and original then $200.00 is in the ball park for a model 84 in .410. I have seen nice ones sell for $250.00 or so. If you are buying then it depends on how badly you want it at anything above the $200.00 range.
 
Anybody who pays more than $100.00 for any kind of Cooey must have considerably more money than brains!!
 
Some pretty sad Cooeys bring $100 these days, and .410 grouse dusters are in demand. I would say if it is truly 95 to 98% Model 84, it would bring about $250.
Clearly m12man has no love for these Canadian icons.

I would rate the 28 gauge, .410 and 36 inch 12 bore as the three Model 84 Cooeys that are most in demand.
 
I am very happily in the 21st century, as opposed to some who think these 1950,s budget specials are " collector " items, must be a lot of one table gun show people on here trying to glorify their " collector " guns to the very naive!

People collect all sorts of different things for all sorts of different reasons. Because you don't value something someone else does, is that make them wrong??

I could care less about Cooeys. But I don't crap on those who do.
 
For a budget gun collector I guess it's s place to start they certainly do fit the icon category they were a budget gun that functioned fine . Noty cup of tea . Did Cooey warranty work for 5 or 6 yrs back in the day could care less if I ever see another one .
 
There are a lot of Cooeys being shot as single barrel Trap guns for Black Powder Trap at our club. They are easy to take down and clean up the Black Powder residue, and not expensive.

Not that I fully agree with this statement; but I do think it holds some truth. These were budget guns and to me hold more value as a true piece of Canadiana than as collector items.
At a recent gunshow a seller had a very very good condition Cooey bolt 22. He was asking $230. I Politely offered $200. The seller counter offered with $225. I politely walked away. $200 was absolute MAXIMUM $$ for a Cooey IMHO.

While condition always matters it is far more important with guns in the lower price ranges. Most Cooeys were used hard and finding one in better than abused condition is quite rare. $300 for an unfired Cooey .410 in pristine condition with box and paperwork would hardly be out of the question.

You see the same phenomenon with the Parker Trojan. Although the lowest grade Parker, a Trojan in NIB condition will often be worth more than lower condition but higher grade Parkers.
