Cooey in 30-06

Hey all, picking up a Cooey model 71 in 30-06. Has a 3x9 scope mounted. Anyone have any experience with this particular model or caliber. I'm a big fan of the Cooey as I have several 12g and .22 and all function flawless. Thanks!
 
While the Winchester-Cooey 71 and 710 rifles had some features of the Model 70 winchester, it is actually a different action.
The bolt is M70, but without the 3 position safety on it.
The trigger is also M70, but that is where it ends.
The M70 is a flat-bottomed action, the Winchester-Cooey offerings are round, like a [gasp] 700 Remington.
The Winchester-Cooey also has a recoil lug of the same type as a 700 Remington, but it is a bit thinner,
The safety is a two position type on the right side of the receiver.
They are generally fairly accurate rifles, but quite plain and utilitarian.
Most have stocks from Beech or some other non-walnut wood.
The 670 is the same as the M70, but not the 71/710 rifles.

Hi there. The 06 is a great round and the Cooey is a nice rifle. I had one in 243 that I regret selling :(. Oh well I have had great results loading for the 06 as there is lots of load development in the 100 plus years. I load for an old swede sportier 96 so I do not load too hot. It likes Sierra 200 grains behind some IMR 4350. I like 4895 for 150 slugs as well. Good luck.
 
The Cooey's are all great rifles. I've got a couple including a 710 in 30-06. Excellent piece! Accurate, smooth and well balanced.

Does anyone know if it will fit in Remington 700 ADL stock?
It would be super to trade out the existing stock for some fine walnut.

It is close to fitting the 700 stock, but the hole spacing and inletting is a bit different.
However, I believe it would not be too difficult to make a 700 stock work.
Much easier than trying to fit it to a M70 Winchester stock.

Thanks Eagleye. I'm going to look for a long action and see how it makes out. The Cooey wood is unimpressive.
 
Up until a short while ago I wasn't even aware of this Cooey model which is a bit embarrassing since I cut my shooting teeth on several Cooey's many years ago.I had an idea that all they produced were 22's and single shot shotguns.
At a local gunshow last month I saw one of these rifles that was in near mint condition in 30-06,darn near bought it but passed on it.Now I wish I had purchased it,always the way.
