Hello all.

Quick bang for my buck question here.. and I know they are posted all the time, but everyone was a starter at some point, right?

I just got my test results back from the PAL course and on sending them out, took a trip to the gun store.

They have a .22 that I like the look of, and as a starter, will help me be more comfortable around the range, with saftey and the like.

A Cooey Model 600, with a nice leather sling and a traditional hunting scope for 200, taxes in.

Good deal?

It's used but the bore is like new... sat in a safe.
 
It all depends. You can spend $200 for a used rifle or about $50. more for a brand new Marlin, Remington, Mossberg etc. I personally like the older ones, they have more character but they can have issues that come with their age like ejecting problems, feeding and all that. I guess what I would say is if you like it and you are ok with the price, grab it.
 
Problem with my Cooey 600 is weak firing pin strikes, makes it an unreliable hunting rifle cause you never know if it will fire or not.
 
$200 for a bare bones M600? Kinda high....they sell on here much less...and usually they can be got c/w scope. Many other ones on EE too. I like the early ( 1940s) Mossbergs and Marlins much more than the Cooey lineup...but just my experience and choice... Had them both ...made my choice.
 
I love those old Cooeys. I like the 60 better than the 600 for the slimmer stock, but either way they're very accurate Canadian made rifles. $50-$125 depending on condition, no scope.

Not sure what you mean by a traditional hunting scope, but if it's a Weaver 4X it would make a good paperweight. I've got one you can have, you pay shipping. PM if interested.
 
Silly questions in reply to the OP (original post, for the newbie to our "jargon" :D), but ;) :

(1) how dead-set are you on having a scope rifle :),

(2) what distances are you planning on using the rifle @ (primaily :p), and

(3) how do you feel about peep-sights? :cool:
