Hey All

Well I went and bought this .22 blind of the EE. I shot it and appears the firing pin spring or the bolt return spring needs replacing. So I broke the rifle down only to find that I can't take the firing pin bolt out of the reciever. It's sealed in their. It appears the only way to access it is to remove the barrel. WTF. how are you suppose to ever be able to clean it. Were these old guns designed cheap like this.

"...appears the firing pin spring or the bolt return spring needs replacing..." What makes you think that? you're right though. To get the bolt out, you need to remove the barrel. No big deal. It's been a while since I removed mine, but as I recall, there's a wedge that holds the barrel in. Pop it out and pull off the barrel.
Now, after looking at your attached pics, I'm going to make you burst into tears. Long ago, about 1981, in the shop I worked in, we got in a shipment of absolutely mint, still in the cosmoline, laminated stocked, K98's, made in Germany for Portugal with the matching bayonet. They sold for $215. Don't cry too hard though. That was nearly a week's gross pay for me then.

Also goto www.savagearms.com/cs_cleaning_rimsemi.htm for cleaning info and www.savagearms.com/images/pdf/manuals/Autoloader.pdf for a manual. The Cooey 64 and 64B have been made by Cooey, Winchester-Cooey, Lakefield and now by Savage, the Lakefield and Savage have a safety lever on the right rear of the receiver whereas the Cooey and Winchester-Cooey just had the bolt handle being pushed in to lock the bolt. Most everything is the same and the mags are supposed to interchange but sometimes need fitting.
